International free calling works, but texting does not

Xfinity recently told customers that calls and texts from international locations are now free. You do not need to activate the Global Pass to use calling and texting .  However, only calling works.  Called customer service to ask and was told to turn on roaming data.  Well if you do that, you are immediately charged for the $10/ day Global Pass, since a phone is always using data, even when you aren’t using it.  So users don’t really have free international texting.  Customer service not really helpful and only offered to deactivate my Global Pass. I didn’t want that, as I have it for the times I do need international data.  What I really want is for my phone to work seamlessly wherever I am without extra per day fees.

user_c0hhex, thank you for reaching out to Xfinity Support. To get international free calling and texting with Xfinity Mobile, enable WiFi calling while connected to the Xfinity Mobile network in the U.S. This allows you to call and send texts to U.S. numbers for free when traveling abroad. Ensure your device supports WiFi calling and has the latest software and carrier settings. For international texting, all Xfinity Mobile lines can send texts, but charges may apply based on the destination. Always check eligibility and policies for international roaming and calling.

Thank you.  The issue is not when I am on WiFi, which works fine, it is when I am not on WiFi.  In this case, calling works  and texting does not.  This is not what was promised .

user_c0hhex Which country are you trying to send a text message to? Please note that some countries are blocked on our end, and messages may not go through if the destination is on our blocklist.

Hi @user_c0hhex, you are indeed correct about a few things. I'll keep things simple by saying that the global travel pass just needs to be disabled on your account, and that will allow you to enable international roaming calls and text without activating the global travel pass. Our team can help you take this step!  Just send us a direct message with your full name, the name listed on the account (if different), and the service address associated with your account.

Along with that, it would be a good time to review one of the support article below about using Xfinity mobile while you travel.
Can I use Xfinity Mobile when I travel internationally?

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:
Click "Sign In" if necessary
Click the "Direct Messaging" icon
Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there
- As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list
- An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line
Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
Press Enter to send it.
