installation fee

Hi, my bill recently went up and i see that the 1Gbps option is now cheaper than the 400Mbps plan i'm on so i was going to switch, but i see there is a $100 professional installation fee. Is this fee necessary if i'm just switching plans? I see it listed on the 500Mbps and 300Mbps plans as well. What would need to be installed? I own my router and modem. Would this require a technician to come to my house? If so, what would they be doing?

Concern moved here to the Customer Service help section for greater exposure to Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.

user_o3y7mg Install fee's are only needed if a tech has to come out to install service, but given you already have active service you should be allowed to select self install option. To confirm, when you are reviewing the packages are you logged into the app or website and using the "manage my plan" option to review offers? Just want to make sure as it sounds like the system is seeing the request as if it were for a new customer, or a transfer of service to a new location.

Hi, thanks for your response. Yes, I'm logged in and this is after looking at the available plans, selecting "Switch to plan" and then looking at the full details. I see now that under installation fees it says customers should only reference one option and lists both the professional install and the $0 getting started kit. I missed that before but thank you for confirming that won't be an issue!

Very strange as an installation most likely is not needed @user_o3y7mg. Please send a direct message by clicking the chat icon in the upper right corner of the page, clicking on the pen and paper icon, and then entering “Xfinity Support” in the “To” section. Please include your full first/last name and complete service address (Including the city, state, and zip code), and I'll be happy to help.
