Gigabit x2 Service

With this service do we have to use the xfinity gateway or can we use our own modem?

Currently I have my own modem that's rated for upto 10gb download and 1gb upload.

Hey @user_8166d5, thank you for reaching out to Xfinity Support on our Forums. The Gigabit x2 is currently only available with Xfinity modems. The Next Generation network updates are still in the earlier phases though and that may change in the future.

Just tried to sign up for x2 2 gig and was told I have to rent the modem from them for $15 a month.  I can't use my own modem.  No thanks.  No reason we shouldn't be able to use our own modem if they are compatible.

Hi there,

I was wondering when we might be able to use our own devices with the Gig x2 service. @Xfinity Support

Hello @user_8166d5,

  • Gigabit x2 requires an XB8 (primary) or XB7 (secondary). At this time customer-owned equipment is not supported, but we will update you if this process changes.

I no longer work for Comcast.
