Fraudulent

Xfinity is fraudulently using my social security number for someone else’s debt. I’ve had my current service since 2016 yet that is not proof that I’ve lived at the same place this whole time. The person on the past due account has a similar name but not the same. Their incompetent employees could not do their research before applying someone else’s debt to a current paying customer’s ssn. Now they want me to jump through hoops for their mistake. If I’m going to jump through hoops to supply them with the information that they already have on my active account, then I’d rather get the information they need and hire a lawyer. Their customer service is a joke.

Hey @user_c965w0, Thank you for visiting our official Xfinity Forums Community support page. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience regarding the possibility of some charged off debt. If you believe the account is associated with fraud and not your personal account, we recommend visiting our 'Comcast Resources for Fraud and Identity Theft Resolution' support page to file out an identity theft affidavit. Instructions on how to complete the form can be found on our 'Instructions for Completing the ID Theft Affidavit'. Please give these pages a view and let us know if you need any additional assistance.

I have already done this. CS wants me to jump through hoops to get paperwork I don’t have to show I lived at my current address from 2019 to 2024. I have actively had service at my apartment since 2016 and paid my bill every month up to current. My last name is [Edited: Personal Information] but they used my social security number to report a woman with the same first name and the last name [Edited: Personal Information]. I’ve lived in apt [Edited: Personal Information] since 2016 while paying my bill monthly. They see that on their end but need proof I didn’t live in [Edited: Personal Information] that [Edited: Personal Information] lived in from 2019 to 2024. Apparently she moved and didn’t pay her bill. Someone at Xfinity couldn’t put 2 and 2 together and decided those names are close enough. Let’s just use [Edited: Personal Information] ssn that lives in [Edited: Personal Information] that has a current account to report [Edited: Personal Information] that didn’t pay her bill for [Edited: Personal Information]. I shouldn’t have to go back and pull all kinds of proof when the proof is in Xfinity’s computer system.

Please accept my most sincere apology for the experience you have encountered @user_c965w0. But our system and more do not just assign debt to another completely different account, regardless if the names are slightly different or similar. As the account is not yours or under your name, for customer privacy and security reasons, we will not be able to review their account. The best way to help investigate the matter would be through our fraud investigative team using the links provided above.

Unfortunately they do assign other people’s debt to peoples accounts. There is no link between me and the other person other than similar names and same address but different apartment numbers. From the research I’ve done the more cases I am seeing of this happening. I am posting here because I want people to see that it does happen. I’ve already reported it and Xfinity CS is a joke.

Like I said, I already have. No resolve unless I jump through hoops to get information for Xfinity’s careless mistake. I already made an inquiry about taking legal action under FCRA. If I am going to jump through hoops to get the information Xfinity is requesting even though the computer system shows them my proof of residency since 2016 to current then I’ll see about hiring a lawyer to resolve the issue for me.
