Fake Comcast Call - Scam

Hello. This is an announcement to fellow Xfinity customers to bring awareness to a bot scam that happened to me.

Before I go in depth, I have a BA in Software Engineering. I will try to keep to tech talk low so it is easily understandable.

For the last two days I received a call with the caller ID saying "COMCAST" that has my local area code instead of Xfinity's usual 888 area code. Both times I answered and heard nothing back. The  after 3 seconds, it hangs up. Perplexed, I call back today and it reroutes me to Xfinity's customer service bot. I follow the prompt until I talk to a live agent so I can explain the situation. After I explained it to him, he told me he will hang up and call me back. When he did, he called me back from Xfinity's actual number, not from my local area code.

Currently I am on hold while he consults with their security team. I took the time to connect my phone to my computer and run a sandbox program to check if any malware was uploaded. So far the scan is clean. I will update this post if I find anything or after my call with the actual Xfinity's customer support.

Long story short: If you get a call from a random number like this and you call it back and get Xfinity's customer service bot, hang up and call Xfinity's actual customer support and explain the situation. This bot was possibly listening to our conversation  waiting for details about my billing.

[Edited: "Personal Information"] I think this was a scam too they wanted to "update my pricing" from a NY number when I am in Oregon.

I was called yesterday to update my Comcast tv boxes. After I verified my name they told me my address and phone #. They told me to turn off tvs and it would take about 10 minutes. He asked me to write down info on them like phone # to contact them if I had questions. They were going to reduce my bill by $50 a month for 2 yrs saving me $1200 the first year. I would not receive a bill but for that savings/profit ( lol), I would be charged $299. Lol. I lost it told them to get stuffed!.. they called back in a few minutes, I told the I just hung up and the $299 was in the mail..he got all excited asking where did I send it WHAT ADDRESS? Lol I laughed and called him an [Edited: Language]

I received a voicemail from [Edited: Scam Number] saying my 50% discount was expiring and to call back at the number on my caller id. Called back, went through an automated system that seemed to be just like Xfinity. Live person came on and asked to verify billing address and told me my account monthly billing would be increasing and wanted me to add a new promotion that would be 3 yrs of service at $55 but to lock that in I’d have to pay for the first year up front which sounded ridiculous . Ask him if I could speak to a manager and he got mad and hung up on me. Just wanted to share that the fraud calls or becoming more sophisticated with automation that copy what we are all used to when we call in to get actual customer service! Be careful.
