Email password reset without an account

Over a decade ago, my parents had an account with Comcast that had several emails tied to it. About a week ago, there was a security breach on my father's main email address. He was able to access his email in the morning, but, in the afternoon, when he tried to get on, it asked him to change his password, as the email had been compromised. He attempted to reset his password with the help of customer support but was not able to. Customer support looked for the account using the address, account owner name, phone number, etc. and nothing came up in the system. Neither of my parents accessed the account after we moved to a different state. Eventually, the auto-deactivation of the account occurred, but with the email addresses still usable and being used to this day.

In order to reset the email password, we need access to the account. But the account doesn't exist anymore. How can we change his password without an account?

Hello, @user_title. Aside from the email problem I hope you are having a nice weekend! This is the link to find your Xfinity ID. It should just be the first part of the email address before the at symbol. This is the link to Reset Your Password. When you guys are going through that process are you seeing any type of error such as it doesn't recognize his Xfinity ID? Has he been accessing his email address on our Xfinity Connect website (even periodically) or through a 3rd party email such as Outlook?

@XfinityRay When we try to log in, a message pops up say to reset password because it detected a potential issue. Click a button that says "reset password", then a new message saying to call or chat. He accesses his email on his phone, but has not logged in to the main website in a very long time.

According to customer support, the email is not attached to any account, and they are unable to find any record of the account it was attached to. If we can find a way to reset the password, I can add his email to my current xfinity account.

Thank you for these details, this is very helpful. Do you know if you were/are an authorized person on his deactivated Xfinity account? If so, I can take a closer look there for you.

I no longer work for Comcast.

I am not an authorized user. I currently use an email that was tied to the account, if that helps. But otherwise, I can provide contact info for my parents or, if you have a number they can call, I can pass that along to them. Would there be any way to talk to an employee that has read and understood this forum thread? Whenever we call the 1-800 number for customer support, it has ended with up being us talking in circles, due in part to not being able to locate the account. Thank you

I really appreciate your time and dedication to this! As you can imagine, we take account security very seriously, and we would be limited to what information we can offer on an account without authorization. That being said, we would like to offer you as much support as we can to help offer a resolution.

It sounds like doing some additional research into the email itself will be beneficial. I know we could not find this before but checking for any other active account tied to this email may help. Without being able to log in for 2-step verification so you can add it to your account, it may be very difficult to recover that if the password is not allowing you to update it. In this case, lets check the email to ensure its not connected with any other account, and we can try to offer you more assistance. Can you send us a direct message to protect your personal information, please?

Here's the detailed steps to Direct Message us:
• Click "Sign In" if necessary
• Click the "Direct Message" icon (upper right corner of this page)
• Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
• Type "Xfinity Support" in the to line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list
• Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
• Press Enter to send your message

I no longer work for Comcast.
