Collection Account Incorrectly Associated With My SSN - Need Xfinity Investigation

An Xfinity account belonging to my deceased father has been sent to collections and is now appearing on my TransUnion credit report.

The collection agency has told me that the Social Security number associated with the account ends in the same digits as mine. However, I did not open this account, I was not the account holder, and I did not authorize my Social Security number to be associated with this account.

I have already disputed the collection with TransUnion, but the collection was verified.

I have attempted to resolve this through Xfinity customer service and the collection agency but have been unable to reach anyone who can investigate the underlying account ownership.

I need an Xfinity representative to investigate the original account records and determine how my identifying information became associated with my father's account.

Could an Xfinity employee please assist me and, if necessary, invite me to Direct Message so I can provide the private account information and supporting documentation?

@davidp12 I understand your concern. Based on what you've described, this may require a review of the account ownership and identity information associated with the account rather than a standard billing or collections review.

If you believe your Social Security number was used without your authorization, or that the account was incorrectly associated with your identity, we recommend submitting an Identity Theft/Fraud claim so the account details can be formally investigated. Our specialized team can review the documentation and determine whether the account was properly associated to you.

To report fraud or an identity theft issue with Xfinity, call our Customer Security Assurance team at 866-308-1542 or file a report through the Xfinity Identity Theft Claim Form.
