Cat5e in new construction

New construction home has cat 5e running from each room to the exterior of the house near the electric meter. There are no outlets here that I can see. Builder says this wiring is for cable tv, and that this is standard in new construction, and that the cable installer will know how to handle it.

Can anyone confirm that this is the case? And any details about what the installer will need to do to use this setup? I am trying to avoid having to drill into a brand new house, but I’ve never seen this set up before.

Hey there, @chlojolo thanks for reaching out through Xfinity Forums regarding your new construction home. Congrats on your new home! How exciting, and I hope you get to move into the new build soon! Do you know if any of the rooms have coaxial outlets installed or if all of the outlets are Cat5e?

All the outlets are Cat5e.

@chlojolo Thank you so much for confirming! Do you know if you have like a main networking box that was installed? Typically, there would be one main hub for the modem to be installed.

No, as far as I can tell all the cat5e runs directly from each room to the outside, near the electric meter. I see five unterminated cable ends coming out of the exterior wall in a bundle.

@chlojolo We can definitely have a tech out to your location to take a look at your connections and help with installation. Keep in mind, our techs will not perform any wall fishing, if that is needed it would require a third-party contractor.

I can help with getting an install set up for you with new services. We are so excited to have your new home in the Xfinity family!
