Can’t activate new modem because it’s linked to someone’s account?

I’ve spent far too much time today trying to find a solution - I purchased a modem/router on Amazon and I can’t activate it “because it’s linked to an account.” Chat keeps telling me to call, when I call it tells me to text or chat in app, who then tell me to call!! Is there any way to activate this?

The reason the modem is linked to an account is because the person did not return the modem to Xfinity.

The computer can tract the modems mow. It looks like to purchased a stolen Xfinity modem.

Did you buy it brand new in its original packaging, or was it a refurbished / used model ?

FWIW here, I don't ever remember that model being a Comcast rental device ?

It is a refurbished item purchased on Amazon, a Netgear 6900.

Perhaps the employee that replied may be able to assist you. Maybe not. They may tell you to return it for a brand new one. Did you send them that direct message that they requested ?

In future, to be safe, buy only brand new modems in their original packaging from reputable retailers. Good luck with it !

And never buy electronics, especially modems, from eBay!
