Bright orange cable needs replaced

We have a bright orange cable that was permanently attached to our home for some reason when we first received cable 10 years ago. Over the last several years we have had constant interruption issues and have been disappointed with our service, but not knowing any better option we have decided to stay with xfinity- we know lots of people that love their service and have no problem. We have tried several things to help with it- even having service men come out. Only now have I heard from social media that the reason could be from the fact we have an extremely old ‘temporary’ cable still attached to our home. Can someone please come install a permanent cable so we can finally see if that helps our service?

Hello @user_j2rmz6, and thanks for reaching out here on our Xfinity Community forums!

Dealing with ongoing service interruptions over several years can be frustrating, especially when you've been trying to find a lasting solution.

One thing worth mentioning is that the color of the cable itself is not always an indication of whether it's temporary or permanent. Depending on the location and installation requirements, different cable sheathing colors may be used. That said, orange-colored cable is commonly used for temporary, above-ground drop lines that are installed until a permanent solution can be completed, or the line is buried and made permanent.  Depending on the method used to bury the line, it may or may not be replaced.

To help us better understand your situation, have any Xfinity technicians been out to your home within the past few months? If so, were any notes left regarding the condition of the drop line or whether a replacement or burial order had been submitted?

Once we know a little more about the recent service history, we can help determine the best next steps and whether the line should be inspected or replaced.

Thank you. We have not had a technician come out in a few years because nothing they ever did helped. It would be great to have someone come out again knowing that the ‘temporary’ line may be what is causing the issue. I am pretty sure they mentioned it was temporary when they installed it because I remember thinking it was odd to have a bright orange cable hung on the side of my house. But when they didn’t come back, I guess I forgot about it and didn’t realize it might be the issue.

Is the line going across the ground away from the house or does it go down into the ground next to the house?

Thank you for your response, I will be happy to assist. To begin, would you mind sending me your name and the address to your account in a Direct message?

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

- As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

- An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

Press Enter to send it.
