Box making high-pitched noise

Our cable box is making a high-pitched noise. It almost sounds like a fan component that is doing this. Although it isnt constant, it is doing this more and more frequently. It has become so high-pitched that we have had to unplug it on multiple occasions. Can we take it to an xfinity store?

You could take the box to the nearest service center and have it exchanged "no charge".

I will move your post to Customer Service forum in case you want them to help with exchange instead.

Hello @user_9364d6 Thank you so much for reaching out to us to see if the cable box can be exchanged and the great news yes! You can bring it to a Xfinity store and we will be able to exchange it with a new device. Depending on the available inventory you may receive a different model, but it should have all the same options and features as your current cable box. I'm sorry that the one you have now is making that sound! If I had to guess I would say that you have a DVR. I tend to see more noise questions about them. If it is a DVR I want to warn you that when you exchange the device you will lose any recorded programs that are not recorded to the cloud. You can easily check this on the Xfinity Stream app or website. Simply log into the app/website and select recordings. The recordings found here will still be available after the swap. If there is anything not listed that is on the DVR unfortunately they will not transfer to the new device.
