Autopay turned off — card declined — NO RECORD OF EITHER EVENT
Arriving home from travel I discovered a bill from Xfinity which was double my usual amount. I checked online (first time I’ve logged into xfinity in many months) to find that it was somehow including a previous balance. I called in (turning somersaults five ways to get an actual human) only to find that:
a) autopay has been turned off — no notification
b) there was a supposed credit card decline from the 17th — again, no notification — nothing. Didn’t even show up on the billing — just as “balance not paid”.
Taking these in order:
a) I didn’t turn off autopay (see the comment above about not logging in in many months)
b) I checked with my credit card company — there were no declines and Xfinity (e.g. Comcast) didn’t present a request for payment this month according to their records.
The agent offered to remove the late fee and “lower my bill” and sent me a link to approve. I viewed the link and its intent was to hitch me up to another two year contract???!!!
I already have a second circuit with AT&T — tomorrow I will be contacting them about raising that plans data speed so I can cancel Xfinity.
