Agent offered a great deal and then requested credit card info on chat. I refused!

Here's the transcript. I liked what he was offering, but I WILL NEVER give credit or debit card info by chat - even if, as he said, he would only see starred-out numbers. Sounds totally like a scam.

Xfinity Assistant

Good morning Georgerobert.

Which works best for you?

You are now chatting with Zohaid, an Xfinity Live Agent
Hello Zohaid. I'm age 80 and have qualified for the ACP program. My contract renewed recently at $58/month which is a lot more than I was paying. I wonder if I can change it and renew at the lower cost - I think it was under $40.

Good day ! thank you for contacting Xfinity support. My name is Zohaid , Who do I have the pleasure of assisting today?

Hello Zohaid. My name is George.

Hi George, hope you and your family is doing well.

Yes, thank you - and likewise.

George, no worries I'll quickly go to your account and check the best plan for you.

Thank you.

You are most welcome.

Till then just wanted to know how much do you pay for your cell phone services?

I have a very cheap plan, as I only use the phone 3 min max per month. I pay $11 for AT&T network and some data. My provider is Red Pocket Mobile.

George, what if your monthly bill will be $20 per month for 600 MBPS

currently you are getting 100 MBPS in $58

Sounds good to me! :)

But there is an condition you have to switch your number into Xfinity then your monthly bill will be $15 for cell phone services.

So then also you will be saving the money.

The number also remain the same.

Thank you, Zohaid. I think that for now I would just like to lower the internet bill until Xfinity approves my ACP application (I have already qualified for ACP). I'm not completely satisfied with my cell service, but I would like to check Xfinity cellular reputation first before I change. But I appreciate the offer.

The Xfinity Cellular is very best to be honest. And also like to inform you that here also you will get the ACp and you will save the money as well.

Because you will get the bil for $20 and you will get the ACP for $30 that will keep you in plus only.

OK, let's switch. Will my service be uninterrupted - that is, can I keep using RedPocket until I insert the new SIM from Xfinity?

No your services will not get interrupted till you activate the new Xfinity Sim cards

Okay, sounds good.
How much talk/text and data are included?

In $15 you will get unlimited text and calling and 1gb internet

Very good. :)

So please help me with the date of birth and SSN number for verification purpose it needed.

[Edited: "Personal Information"]. Social is [Edited: "Personal Information"].

Thanks please stay connected I'll be back.

Thank you.

And I can get the free phone for you as well shall I get that

I'm using a good phone, so thank you. But just for curiosity, what kind of phone would it be? Maybe I can use it as a second phone?

Samsung A 13 5g phone is totally free talk it.

With is I'm also giving and $200 prepaid Visa cards also.

No thanks, I don't need a Visa.

Hi @runbei ! Thank you for visiting the Xfinity Forums to let us know about this experience. I completely understand your concerns with providing your payment details through chat. With so many different scams out there, I'd be nervous about this as well!

Our team can definitely help with checking into this further as experts with the corporate office. Can you please send us a direct message with your first and last name and the service address to get started?

We do have multiple options for you to use when setting up an account. There are 3 options in total. The first is the traditional credit check that you are describing, the second is what is called easy enroll. Easy enroll would be a $50 prepayment that goes direct to your first bill but also requires having autopay on your account. The third option would be to pay a $100 deposit. We truly appreciate your time reaching out to us! You are an incredibly valued member of the Xfinity family!

I had a the same event but the xfinity service demanded a checking account number and router number and said he could not accept credit card. I can’t get the updated modem internet services unless I pay by check and give him this information. This is suspicious

They're asking me for date of birth, credit card details (including CVV), Social Security Number and IMEI of my mobile devices. There's no way I can feel safe with Xfinity. Is this for real???

I honestly wouldn't trust that. Make sure you report this, there is no anyone should be asking for the imei on your devices.

I no longer work for Comcast.
