Adding a Wired Connection

Trying to decide if it would be better to relocate my gateway to my son's game room so that he can have a Wired Connection for his racing games...or to add a Wired Connection in the game room.

@user_h8c4qv As someone that loves to game in her free time, I know just how helpful a hardwired connection can be when it comes to gaming! I'd love to talk this through with you to find what setup works best for your needs. Your modem should always be placed as central as possible in the home for the best connection through the home. Our Discovery Hub has a fantastic article on how to Position Your Gateway Like a Pro to help optimize your connection. Are you currently running into issues with your connection with the modems current location, or do you only want to relocate the modem for the direct connection? When you mention add a wired connection to the game room, do you already have a plan on how to achieve that?

@XfinityKatie Thanks for the speedy reply. The Gateway is in the living room, which is near the back of the house. The game room is in the middle room of a "Jack & Jill" set-up. I bought another xfi Pod for that room, but my son is still experiencing disconnect during online races. You can imagine his frustration. HE wants to buy a $30 router to plug into, and I told him that the Gateway does not work that way, but he's insisting on spending HIS money to do this. I do have a cable wire connection in the game room, but I don't know if it's live. If it is, I could swap the gateway in the living room for the xfi pod in the game room and see if that works. If it's NOT live, I'll need to have a visit from a tech. How to check if the wall cable connection is live?

Good question, @user_h8c4qv! I think the easiest way to test it is by using your modem (when you can afford a few minutes of downtime in connectivity). Simply move your existing equipment from the living room to the game room, connect everything the same way (coax and power wise), and see if you can get a connection! Let me know if that helps :)

Sorry for the late reply. It has been a super rainy week this week. I plan to test the coax line in the game room this Saturday. If it works, great. I will then relocate the xfi pod to the living room where the gateway was. If not, I'll need to schedule a tech to come out and make that connection live.
