$79.99 per month for 3 years scam with prepayment using Target gift card

The caller left a msg on my cell that Xfinity was offering a great promo to reduce my monthly bill to $79.99 for a period of 3 years with no contract or penalties. I was asked to call back at [Edited: "Personal Information"]. As it sounded enticing, I called and spoke with an agent who walked me through the deal. The offer was that Xfinity was partnering with Target to offer this promo and a requirement was that I prepay the first 4 months of $320 by purchasing a Target gift card from a local store and calling the Xfinity billing department at [Edited: "Personal Information"] and redeeming the gift card.

I was told that I would not get billed for the first 4 months as a result of this up-front payment and thereafter I will get monthly bills for $79.99, taxes included. I was also offered a $100 visa gift card if I acted within 2 hours of this offer. Since it was late evening, I was given time till 12noon Friday 3/17 to take care of this transaction.

Getting suspicious of this, I went to an Xfinity forum and found out that this was a scam. It appears as if this scam has been going on for a few months and it needs to be stopped as they are doing a great job of mimicking Xfinity marketing and billing department and everything sounds like it could be the real Xfinity.

The scary part is they knew my full name, telephone number, the monthly subscription amount I pay Xfinity, and possibly my home address as well. It is very likely that there was a data leak from Xfinity to expose all this information to the scammers. Xfinity has not reached out to me with any warning about lost data. Either they don't know the data leak or are not admitting it. Xfinity needs to be investigated as well and our data needs to be protected!
