Why random recordings?

Here is a solution to the random recording problem. Many, many of Xfinity users have random recordings appearing in their Scheduled recordings list. I have had to delete thousands of random recordings and it's very frustrating. The reason it’s happening is that channels we would never watch are labeling old episodes as “NEW” when in fact they are not new. As an engineer, we were always told to apply the KISS solution to problems. For the non-engineers, KISS stands for Keep It Simple Stupid. All the Xfinity programmers have to do is allow users to designate any channel as unwanted and allow them to put it in a “Not Needed Now” box. It wouldn’t delete the channel from the user’s channel lineup but would just make it invisible as an available channel. If the user desired, at some later time they could re-add it back into their list of available channels. Problem solved.

user_uoo3zx Thank you for taking time out of your day to share the details of the recordings that are showing up in your Scheduled recording list. I would be frustrated if I had to clear out all the unwanted recordings, so I'm glad you reached out to give us an opportunity to find a resolution. Are these recordings that you set up a long time ago or are you seeing recordings that you never set?

Hi Emily B.

Here's an example:

We schedule to record NEW episodes of Wheel of Fortune. Our Scheduled recordings include the actual new episodes of Wheel of Fortune and also include some random channel's old episodes of Wheel of Fortune. That random station has labeled the old episodes as NEW. Therefore they are scheduled to be recorded.

This started happening about a year and a half ago. It's become worse and worse. We are getting these unwanted OLD episodes of most of our actual NEW scheduled episodes of shows we want to watch. Please give us a way to eliminate the channels that are doing this from our list of available channels so that these channels cannot be scheduled to record.

I appreciate the details. When setting up the recording, do you see an option to refine the series recording for a certain channel or only for new episodes? I know you mentioned that "new" episodes are appearing on other channels that may be "new" to them, but we want to help make sure you are not filling your DVR with unwanted recordings as well.

Yes, I have done that and it helps. However, if the season is over, I can't do that.  That only works if one has a new episode from the correct station. During the "off season", Xfinity continues to record the random station old episodes. I understand that I could stop recording during the off season, but then I have to remember to start recording when the actual new season starts. Since the problem lies with these random stations incorrectly labeling old episodes as new, I should have the option to remove them from my available station list so the episodes can't be added to my scheduled program list.
