Comcast and Nexstar have gotten into a retransmission fee fight. Both are gigacorps with multi-billion dollar quarterly profits. They care nothing about you. The execs just want to have enough money so they can afford their megayachts.
Basically, Comcast is not deleting the channels. Nexstar just forbids them from retransmitting their signal. They could allow continued carriage while talks continue, but Nexstar knows that people will blame Comcast, not them.
In my patch of ABC27-land, Comcast's Broadcast TV Fee (see https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/most-common-taxes-fees-surcharges-on-your-bill) has just become greater than the cost of Limited Basic TV service (L.B.TV=$21.99, B.TV.F=$23.20), and if the station's greedy so-and-so's get their way, the greedy so-and-so's at Comcast will jack that fee even higher. Be careful what you wish for!

Another thing is that unlike various carriage disputes with smaller players like Dish, I would bet Comcast is a very large percentage of their viewership. They could be shooting themselves in the foot if they cut off Comcast. Given that many are part of broadcast networks, it could even have an effect on national Nielsen ratings. They could also lose ad revenue as advertisers would want lower rates due to lower viewership.
There’s no good reason for Comcast to drop local programming. What is the point of paying for cable if you can’t even get local channels? When you pay well over $200.a mo. , you’d expect local programming. ABC carries a lot of what we watch
Hello. As someone who values content from all providers, I understand the concerns when you may not have access to the programing you love. Most of the channels that we offer are owned by media companies other than Comcast, which means we need to pay those companies in order to bring their channels to our customers. We negotiate contracts with these media companies to obtain the rights to carry their channels, on-demand content, and streaming apps on our platforms. Comcast has successfully renegotiated thousands of expiring contracts over the years and rarely experienced an interruption of service. For more information on how we work with programmers, visit How It Works. While I know this is not a solution, we are hopeful to continue to bring you all the content you enjoy on a daily basis.
