TV DTA purchase

Does anyone have any success with purchasing your own TV DTA and that Comcast was able to activate?     (thus saving the user/owner from being charged the absurd monthly rental fee of $12 per TV DTA box)

Comcast REPS, via chat, have told me the Pace DC50X and Pace PXD01ANI-DTA will work and can be activated by comcast....but I have found not a single person that says they were successful.     All have said that Comcast could not,  would not, or just did not activate the box they owned.    

Every dollar counts,  so if I can save $12 a month....I sure would like too.
