I have this same problem on at least two of my TV’s. Both sets default to channels that were not the last watched channels. One dafults to ABC and the other one to the NFL network. This started just a few days ago. I refreshed my system using the Xfinity Account app and that didn’t help.

Hello, @user_3668ba and thread. Thank you for letting us know that the TV is turning onto a channel that is not the last one watched. I just checked but I do not see this as a known issue that is being worked on. Is the TV box an X1 style box with the voice remote or a DTA style box that doesn't have the apps?

I've been having this same issue on one of my three boxes for about a week. I've restarted the box and done a system refresh but it's still doing it. At least it's the Music Choice Soundscapes channel so it's soothing, but it's a pain.

@user_cmp119 - Thank you for your feedback, and trying those troubleshooting steps! Yes, it should return to the channel you were last watching. Let's see if we can find commonality between these occurrences. Which X1 TV box is impacted? When troubleshooting did you also try unplugging and restarting the main TV box, if different? For example, a DVR if applicable.

Can you please try to tune to a different channel, hit Exit on your Xfinity remote to ensure it's live, then hit the power button on your remote to turn off your TV? After, press the power button on your remote to turn it back on. Does it still return to the Music Choice Soundscapes after these steps?

I have the same problem. No matter what station I watched last, my TV always comes on with the NFL network

I’m having the same issue. My x1 turns on with ESPN channel even though it’s not the last channel I had on. Not a huge problem thought it was supposed to be the last channel I had on.

Hello @jamesm22 thank you for reaching out to Xfinity through our Forums! We appreciate you sharing your experience with us. Just to clarify, have you already attempted any troubleshooting like a restart, or device replacement?

@XfinityChristian I have tried a restart and that didn’t do anything. It’s a minor inconvenience since I normally turn off the tv with it on ESPN, probably why it took so long to notice.  I’ve had this X1 box since 2014.

Is this currently the only problem you're having with the X1 box?

It is supposed to be on the same channel as it was when you turn on your TV. We have two sets that behave as expected and two sets that show the behavior that we are all talking about. I was hoping that the Xfinity employee that responded to the original poster, would pop in here and offer some help. However, I found another similar community thread where the Xfinity employee could not help, but asked the person to send a DM and they would try to work out.

Frankly, I don’t think that Xfinity knows how to fix this problem. It’s not the end of the world for the TV to not default to the last channel watched on powering up, but for the king’s ransom I pay for internet, cable, phone and some of the bells and whistles I have, I expect things to work as they should.

I will comment again here.

I have two Cisco XiD X1 and one Pace XiD X1 boxes. Two are in bedrooms and one is in the living room. In my game room I have a PX013ANM DVR X1 box. I unplugged the box in the game room which is the PX013ANM box to see if that worked.

The TV in the living room which has one of the Cisco boxes still starts on ABC when powering up. The TV in the game room, which is the one connected PX013ANM DVR box, did show the last station tuned to when I powered it up. However, I won’t know for sure if it will stay working because the set will come on to the last channel watched if it hasn’t been long since the TV was shut off and powered up again. Tomorrow morning will be a better test when it is powered up.

In any event, that still doesn’t explain why this occurs and the TV in the living room is still defaulting to ABC upon power up. I realize this isn’t a widespread problem, but that doesn’t make it any less irritating and annoying. And like I said, I expect it to work as it should.

Hi, @desmo1565. At this time we do not have a default startup channel. Most times it's the last viewed channel before setup, other times it's another channel. We appreciate your feedback as it will help us improve your experience in the future.

Did you read what I said? Do you understand what I meant? Apparently not. I know there is no default channel when powering up. I said that the TV defaults to another channel, not the last channel viewed. I’ve had Xfinity X1 service for quite some time. I know how it works. I know it’s the last channel watched when you first turn on the TV.

No matter what the last channel was that we were watching on the TV set in the living room, it starts up with ABC which is NOT the last channel that we were watching when we powered the TV off.

My TV set in the game room, to which the main box is attached, ALWAYS shows the NFL network when it is powered up, no matter what we were watching when the set was powered down.

Everyone in this conversation has the same problem, and I think I stated what was happening quite clearly. Our TV’s do not start up with the last channel watched when we turn them on. Is that clear enough for you?

Xfinity,

Since we all seem to have the same problem, is anyone trying to fix the issue? You seem to ask a lot of questions but not offering any solutions.

Can we expect a fix for this issue?

I am having the same problem. When I turn my TV on the Hallmark channel comes on even when it was not the last channel watched. I have restarted the box, restarted the system, unplugged the power & cable cords for 5 minutes. After doing these things it worked fine for one time turning on, but once I turned it off and on again I'm having the same problem. This is only happening to the bedroom TV and it started on Monday (4/17/23). Please find a solution to this problem since it seems to be happening to many of Xfinity customers.

Thanks for the detailed information @user_a9250a. You mentioned restarting the box manually, and we appreciate you taking that step in advance. To confirm, did you also try running troubleshooting steps with our Xfinity App or rebooting the box that way? Also, to make sure I understood correctly. You mentioned this is only happening on one of your boxes, correct? The other boxes are working properly?
