Stop threatening to cut local stations

Comcast is at it again threatening to take away local programming. There is no doubt if this happens, I will be cancelling all of my Comcast services, including internet. Prices keep increasing while services get cut. I’ve been considering ditching cable for some time now and also changing to another internet provider. Take away my local station  and you’ll lose thousands of customers. We have other choices. Stop bullying consumers.

And that is exactly what Nexstar wants you to do. Threaten to cancel tv/internet services in order to force Comcast to meet Nexstar's new carriage fee contract demands for local tv stations.

I totally agree. We need access to CBS & WREG local news and weather to keep informed about dangerous weather (the weather channel is not as accurate for our area) and local crime. If we lose WREG and the CBS channels, you will lose us as loyal customers! Please retain these channels!

At this time no information has been provided regarding this network being removed. We will update if we receive information regarding this channel. The link: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/id11-channel-lineup can be helpful in locating your channel lineup for your address. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

I no longer work for Comcast.

I agree. I have Comcast tv, internet, home, and mobile. If they cut local stations I will cut all ties with Xfinity.

Then the alternative is to have Comcast pay whatever the affiliate owners want for their market, or multiple markets, and then watch your cable bill go up even higher than it normally would to pay for whatever Nexstar, CBS/Viacom wants in the way of retransmission/carriage fees. If I lived in an area where I could get OTA I'd drop Xfininty HDTV immediately, but I don't. The only way I can get my local stations live is to pay for something like YTTV, which is actually a bit more costly than what Xfininty charges me for my local network stations. Greed on both sides of the fence, and we, the consumers are caught yet again in the middle.

@user_1d4c10 My bill is increasing and I'm still not getting the stations I want so there's no point in staying. I've experimented and can get the local channels with an antenna and found a streaming service with the other stations I watch the most so the switch is coming as soon as the new internet provider comes and hooks me up. If I'm paying more, I'm going to pay it to services who offer what I want.  But by doing this, I'm actually going to pay almost $50 less a month. It's a no-brainer.

Totally agree with you! I have been  thinking about getting rid of Comcast myself. I will if they get rid of the CW Which is WGN in Chicago.  Way to many options out here!

Comcast and Nexstar have kissed and made up and have a deal. Get ready for your bill to go up even more later this year or next.

@andyross  I hadn't heard. My bill is already going up around $13 starting next month so I wonder how much higher it will go to pay off Nexstar. I wonder which provider is next in the carriage fee rip off dance.

@hbooze Nexstar and Comcast came to an agreement on Saturday, Dec. 17th so you will not be losing your CBS affiliate. However, do expect your cable bill to eventually increase again to cover the cost of what Nexstar was demanding of Comcast.

You should just pay up . You soak me for a lot every month . I,m sure you could easily afford to pay up so we can keep our channels . In the end the [Edited: "Inflammatory"] win while the customer gets shafted.

@user_de24ed  The deal was agreed upon a week ago so it's all over. And yes, your bill will go up for various reasons.

@user_c6bc71 Which local stations in your area are Xfinity threatening to cut off? This thread started when Nexstar threatened to keep its channels off of Xfinity - not the other way around - unless Comcast paid the company more per channel.

I haven't seen this yet in our service area. If there is a message that Comcast is threatening to drop a channel that sounds like a carriage agreement dispute, which is not uncommon. However, a common tactic of the affiliate and/or station owners is to run a crawl across the screen telling the customers that Comcast (or which ever provider it is) is going to drop the station when in reality it's the affiliate/station owner who will pull their network feed if Comcast doesn't meet their demands. If Comcast capitulates to the demands then you can bet that your subscription fees will go higher up (more than they normally would) in the coming year to cover the cost for the "privilege" of carrying what ever station is threaded to be dropped.
