Screen image set-up

How can I change the information on my screen - there is too much of it and I want to simplify it.  Either I would like the guide or my recordings without all the other, extraneous writing.

Also when I am looking at recordings or even looking at the guide, a program is always playing the the background and the noise is irritating. Is there a blank page option or silence that I can have rather than constant movement and noise?  Having to hit mute all the time is annoying.
