Read Emails Becoming Unread After Xfinity Signal Check

Every now and then I go into the Xfinity screen on my tv, go to 'tools', then cursor down to 'Comcast Labs', then select "Check Signal Strength".  Now remember, this on my television.  Sometime later I'll check my laptop and do a random check of my email inbox (through Comcast).  For the last 4-6 weeks, whenever I do that signal strength check (once a week maybe), my email inbox takes the last 3 or 4 dozen emails that I've already read, and were marked as 'read', and changes the status to "unread".

These two events are the only things I will have done with Comcast/Xfinity in that time, no other logging into Xfinity.com, no phone calls, no account changes, no nothing.

Is checking the signal strength somehow accessing my Comcast/Xfinity account and doing a reset of my email at the same time it's doing the video signal check?  This is not a life or death situation but it sure is annoying to see instead of 2 or 3 unread emails that I now have 40 or 50 unread emails.  I have to go through each one and check whether I need/want to keep it, then either delete or 'mark as read' - yes, it's even brought back emails that were previously deleted.

Good evening user_fdf8ca I can certainly understand where that would be frustrating. I know you mentioned this is happening with your Xfinity email, is it happening directly on the Xfinity.com website? Or is it happening while using a third-party application, like Outlook or a mobile mail application?

@XfinityJon I use Outlook on my laptop, Microsoft Office 2021 not Outlook.Com, for all my email.  I have never logged into Xfinity.com to look at email 'on-line' (don't like having to type in a username, which always seems to be rejected at least once or twice, and then type in a complicated password just to read email).  We have 2 personal email addresses @comcast.net plus one 'master' email account @comcast.net.  The vast majority of our email comes to our personal emails and the master email address is used primarily for collecting billing/payment receipts for Xfinity, phone providers, etc.

What happens is that the 'unread' emails always show up on the master account which also happens to be our Comcast TriplePlay account login.  So, my thought is that when I do a 'Signal Strength' check, the system, as part of the signal assessment, verifies the origin, i.e., my home address and account #, and that is what is triggering the change of status of the last (x) emails in that master account to 'unread', like it is doing an email refresh at the same time as it is doing a tv signal refresh.  I repeat what I said in my original query - this only happens after I do a 'signal strength' check on my tv.

This is not an earth-shattering situation but it is a bit annoying, and just by chance if I am correct in my theory (?) it means that there is some crossover between your systems that hasn't been seen prior to this.

I hope that I have answered your questions...

Since it is happening through Outlook, I am wondering if it briefly gets bumped out of sync when the signal check occurs. Are you able to log in to your email directly through the Xfinity website, and see if the same issue happens?

As is usual with 'problems', when I look in depth at them, they stop happening.

This morning I did a 'Signal Refresh' on the tv, and nothing happened to my inbox, locally in Outlook nor when I logged into Xfinity email on-line.

So much for my theories.

If it perchance does happen again, I will certainly respond again to your note, with hopefully better background information as to what I did prior to the situation recurring.

Thank you for your time and effort.
