NewsMax is now a subscription service??

I tried to tune into NewsMax this morning and a box came up that said that I now needed a subscription. I have been able to watch this channel since 2020 for free. I called Xfinity and was told it was part of the Entertainment and Sports package and I did not have that package and that an audit must have been done and it would cost $9.99 per month. NewsMax is an IP. I believe this is censorship! I did reset my modem but I still got the pop up about needing a subscription.

They are having problems.  I just got a $24 credit because I couldn’t get Newsmax like I always did.

Same thing happened to me yesterday, they ran all sorts of diagnostics and after all that they said they will send a tech out today. I told them it's not an error message, it's telling me to upgrade my cable package but i know it's not error. let's see when the tech comes out today, i am just looking for an excuse to cancel my service.

Hey there! Channels often change tiers as audits are done. To simplify the process of how tiers are determined, cable providers such as us negotiate with the broadcasters to determine the price we must pay to them, to carry their channel. Depending on the cost to us to carry it, and comparing that with the viewership of that channel will determine the tier things are in. Typically, channels demanding a higher cost to carry, with lower viewership numbers get placed in premium tiers. Because we pay for the channels based on the number of households that have access to it, If the number of viewers is significantly below that of the standard channels in the basic tier, to prevent losses, the channel would be placed a tier up, and then again from there based on those statistics. Audits are done from time to time to ensure channels are reaching the correct demographics. I hope that creates some clarity on why the channel may move to a premium subscription. And the higher the demand for it, can cause the channelt o be moved by to a standard line up in the future.

There is more demand for NewsMax now more than ever. Xfinity doesn't charge a subscription fee for MSNBC, CNN or Fox News. I think there is more to this and I will be forwarding your reply to NewsMax, I am sure they will find it very interesting that you claim they have a low viewership!

I'm canceling xfinity the end of this month if not sooner. They are raising their prices by about $25 or $30 per month depending on your plan, as of Jan 3rd, 2023. Just saying! I can't get Newsmax either as of either yesterday or the day before. They also have been trying to up to unlimited on my internet. They can take a hike.
