NESN for Legacy Triple Play Packages

It was announced today that NESN is moving to the Ultimate TV package on Tuesday, January 4th.

How does that impact people with legacy Super Triple Play Packages ?

I already pay a regional sports fee so I would think legacy packages would retain NESN?

Legacy Packages with Digital Preferred retain the channels.

Hello, Tek. The New England Sports Network will move from Popular TV, Extra, Sports & News genre pack, and Starter Latino TV to the Ultimate TV package. Customers who don’t subscribe to the Ultimate TV package will not be able to view this programming.
- Impacted customers will receive a one-time RSN credit.
- Moving forward, the RSN fee on their monthly bill will be reduced.

Customers can check out xfinity.com/howitworks for an overview of why there may have been a change to the package in which an RSN is offered or if it has been removed from the lineup.

Xfinity offers a range of alternative content that may offer similar viewing options, including ESPN, Fox Sports1, and Peacock. Customers can also use the Xfinity Voice Remote to find alternative viewing options by saying “sports” to launch the Sports Destination on X1.

Some sports channels may also be available with different channel packages. Customers can visit My Channel Lineup and enter their Xfinity ID, email address or mobile phone number and password to browse their customized channel lineup. They can also view their channel lineup using the Xfinity app.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I am paying $300 a month for a top tier package and you are going to take away my RSN?

That is wrong. I have been with you for over 20 years. Why should I have to pay even more money now to keep what I want ?

Legacy Packages at a Premium Tier should retain the channel.

Thank you for your feedback, Tek. Xfinity pays networks, local TV station owners, and others for the ability to deliver their programming to customers. The fees vary based on factors such as the type of content (like RSNs), the popularity of the network, and the demand for its content, among others. If a customer’s package no longer includes a particular RSN that was previously available, they won’t see that network's portion of the regional sports network fee on their bill.

@Xfinitysupport when NESN is pulled next week will it still be available in the Digital Preferred Tier TV package that is part of Signature Triple Play? My understanding is that legacy tier is equivalent to Ultimate TV. Pricing wise it is just as expensive as Ultimate plus my broadcast and regional sports fee is sperate from my package price.

If not, will there be an option to add just NESN back to the bill for an additional fee?

My package is:

Signature Triple Play

Video Services Includes:

  • Limited Basic,
  • Expanded Basic
  • Kids & Family,
  • Entertainment
  • Sports & News
  • Digital Preferred Tier

Dear Xfinity,

I am writing to express my profound disappointment with your recent decision to relocate NESN and NBC Sports Boston from the Popular TV package to the more expensive Ultimate TV package, effectively placing these channels behind a paywall.

This action starkly contradicts Comcast's mission statement, which asserts the company's dedication to "creating incredible technology and entertainment that connects millions of people to the moments and experiences that matter most."

By restricting access to beloved local sports channels, you are severing a vital connection that many customers cherish, thereby undermining the very essence of your mission.

Furthermore, Comcast's core values emphasize "respect for each other" and a commitment to a "culture of fairness, respect, and inclusion."

Imposing additional financial burdens on customers who wish to continue accessing their preferred sports programming demonstrates a lack of respect and fairness, particularly towards long-standing subscribers who have remained loyal to your services.

I urge you to reconsider this decision and realign your business practices with the foundational principles outlined in your mission statement and core values. Failing to do so not only alienates your customer base but also tarnishes the integrity of Comcast as a company committed to connecting people to what matters most.

Sincerely,

A Former Customer

This is horrible business. Prices continue to surge while the quality of services, customer tools and content deteriorate. I've run out of reasons to keep comcast/ xfinity as a service provider.

very disappointed in this change to People paying already NESN!! You don't even give us a heads up. There should be an option to add Nin back to your regular package. We should not have to upgrade to channels that we do not need or want. looks like you may be losing a lot of customers by doing this. I know I'm going to take my business elsewhere because of it. Not a smart move Xfinity.

Hey there, @user_eu5aix! Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to us here on the Xfinity Forums. I completely understand the need to have the services how you love them within the home. From time to time, network and agreements with Xfinity would move the channels to a different package. I know this is frustrating, and we can certainly document the feedback on our end. Please let us know if you have any other questions/concerns.

Another money grab by big business. Why not get rid of all the garbage channels you force us to subsidize that no one watches. Canceling services this week. 25 year customer.

Removing NESN from our regular programming is one more reason we are considering alternatives. This is one of the worst decisions you have made. I will not upgrade to get NESN.
