Msg Network

Msg will not be on the Xfinity Comcast lineup AGAIN this upcoming Rangers and Knicks season ? You’ve got to be kidding ? How is it that two professional New York sports teams,  with a huge following has just been discarded by the prominent Cable TV provider in the area ? This is how you reward loyalty by the fans ? No wonder attendance is down for these teams. Fans are tired of being used and abused by the teams and cable providers. Corporate greed has destroyed the interest in sports. All Spring and Summer fans had hoped that all would work to broker some type of agreement to return to the fans the entertainment these teams had provided especially in the down times of the pandemic. But sadly it’s the pursuit of the almighty dollar that once again forces fan to suffer. Great job.

Hello there! Thank you so much for reaching out on Forums. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this situation has caused you, and please know we value you as a customer. The MSG+ network has decided to part ways with Comcast for business purposes. Nationally televised New York Knicks, New York Rangers, New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils games will be available on TNT and ESPN. MSG/MSG+ are available on Fubo. Please check your local listings for games that may be airing in your area. I appreciate your understanding.

@XfinityMarcella is msg parting ways with Comcast Xfinity for business purposes code for you couldn’t reach a deal for the carriage rights ? Because I look around and other local cable providers such as Optimum, Spectrum and Direct TV still carry Msg. It’s pretty sad that local fans can’t watch their teams games on tv. What’s next ? Are you going to drop SNY or even YES Network ? I’ll say it again, corporate greed is destroying these teams and other professional leagues fan bases. But obviously your company doesn’t care. And stop trying to substitute the removal of these local professional sports teams with some other regional sports coverage that certainly doesn’t have the same interest level , and then tell the subscribers your still getting a local sports package. You’ve devised a way to stick it to the fans and your very own subscribers. Great Job. I’m sure you’ll lose even more subscribers with this charade

@user_ab7829, Comcast’s agreements with programmers expire from time to time. We had been negotiating with MSG Networks to reach a fair deal that made sense for our customers before the current one expired, allowing us to continue offering MSG and MSG+ on our channel lineup, but were not able to come to an agreement.

Thanks for telling us to drop xFinity and move to Fubo.

Honestly it's corporate greed on both sides, it's not about the customers saving money. If I can't watch on TV, my interest falls, and I don't go to games. So the teams will hurt from this and need to also push against this

I did switch to Fubo, but it should be noted that Fubo does not carry TNT, so you will miss some of the nationally televised games. I will switch to YouTubeTV for the postseason.

Xfinity wants me to mark this as an accepted solution ? Are you serious ? This garbage answer does nothing to give me any confidence in this company to do what’s best for its customers.

Greetings, @user_ab7829. Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We definitely understand how something like these may be of concern and we will always do our best to share the information in order to address your concerns to the best of our abilities. I do see where my colleague mentioned that nationally televised Knicks, Rangers, Islanders and New Jersey Devils games will be available on TNT and ESPN. If you need any help gaining access to these channels if they are not included in your current channel line up please let me know. Also, I do see that the option to subsribe to MSG or MSG+ is available on Fubo.

I no longer work for Comcast

Nationally televised games?!  That’s your answer?  A few games a season?

This is absolutely pathetic..

Xfinity doesnt care, thats why. They know many people arent going to leave their service, or can't leave their service due to contracts or no other local provider. So whats the point in them fighting this battle.

I am stuck in a contract, so I can't leave. But the fact that Xfinity dropped MSG a year ago, and has not made any sort of new attempts or progress to strike a deal shows how little they care, and definitely tarnishes my feeling for the brand. No channel is safe.

100% agree.  We’re now going on TWO seasons without having direct, recurring access to TWO major market sports teams in the tri-state area.

Thats honestly mind-blowing..  In the CT, NJ, and NY market, Xfinity can’t find a path forward to provide its customers with daily access to the Knicks and Rangers, two historic major professional sports franchises..  it’s hard to process how that can be.

When I moved over from Frontier (a no name cable company) I thought I was done dealing with issues like this.  Turns out I was wrong, I’ll be headed back to them if this doesn’t clear up in the next week or two, with or without paying penalties to break my contract, based purely on principle..

Reach a deal with MSG raise your rates and let the people that don’t like it be the ones forced to go to streaming services, a no thrills streaming service like Sling Tv without any New York RSNs available is probably perfect for them and they will probably still keep your Xfinity Internet service . A few dollars more a month is is a lot cheaper than paying $70+ a month for FUBO or DIRECTV stream Just to get MSG for us who do not want to give up Cable.

totally agree - I just got off the phone with these clowns again.  They could care less about their customers.  Every provider drops something because of negotiations.

The solution is offer per channel television - an a la carte menu where a customer can select whatever channels they want, pay a base price and pay per channel

@user_63ef8f MSG wants no part of that they want to be in as many households as possible, even if they don’t watch to them it’s all or nothing.

The irony is James Dolan, when he was owner of Cablevision actually liked that idea, but probably doesn’t now as owner Madison Square Garden.

@DanASBNJ I use twitter to bash xfinity during games - letting them know I can only hear, not see because of them.  Unfortunately they have a monopoly on my town and I can't get Fios, or I would switch in less than a heartbeat.

The most recent excuse I got is if they pay MSG the pricing they want, then other networks will want the same pricing... what does this have to do with me?  Create an all in local sports package, one price, for anyone who wants it.

The problem is that the RSN owners care more about how many households they are available in than how many people actually one and watch the channel for and having them as premium channels or part of a premium package limits how much reach they can brag about even if they would get exactly the same amount of money selling it to Xfinity that way and expense only being passed on to the people that want to pay for the service. The higher number of household you’re in the more you can bill advertisers and selling it premium limits that.

@user_63ef8f When you find a way to offer "a la carte" television that doesn't result in you paying pretty much what you do now for the few channels that you do watch, since each one of them has to charge much, much more to make as much money as they do now with their "package" deals, then kindly let Comcast - and pretty much every other cable service in the country - know.

This is ridiculous already, Comcast only advise/option is to catch a few games on TNT or ESPN then get a $70 Fubo subscription.  I have no choice but to be with Comcast because it's the only cable provider where I live. I truly feel they don't care or they would have made a deal, you could have made it part of a premium package. Whatever excuse Comcast keeps throwing at us, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth with the amount complacency it feels towards it customers.

The problem is that James Dolan and MSG want MSG to be an available in as many households as possible so they can use it to attract advertisers Letting Comcast sell it as premium would restrict that. The irony is that when he was the owner of Cablevision/optimum before selling out to Altice he was all in favor of al-la-care TV options when he was having his own dispute with the Yankees and Yes in 2002.

@DanASBNJ it's just frustrating. As of now, I had to cancel Xfinity cable stations and just have internet. Then get Fubo which is not ideal being that the don't have TNT and then when the Rangers were in the playoffs last season, I had to have two subscriptions to watch... Sling as well as Fubo.
