MSG Channel

Soon we will begin another season for the FOUR professional LOCAL sports teams broadcast on the MSG Channels. And unless something has changed that I haven't read about, this will be the 4th consecutive season Xfinity will not carry these FOUR LOCAL PRO teams team's games on the MSG Network channels.  The only explanation I get from Xfinity is that "from time to time blah blah blah" statement that everyone seems to cut and paste to every person who questions the status of these channels. Xfinity states that this was done to keep their customers costs down. Some Xfinity persons have even suggested that customers subscribe to Fubo to see these channels. Do you know how much Fubo costs? How does that keep our costs down? You also say that these channels are not popular in this area which I believe is bunk! This issue has gone beyond ridiculous. I have put up with this for 3 seasons now only because Verizon Fios has not been offered in my neighborhood yet. When it is offered, although I have been a Comcast customer for a long time, if MSG is not back on Xfinity, you WILL lose me. TV, Internet and Phone! And I will encourage my neighbors to do that same!

Did you ever stop to think that if the statement "MSG is not that popular" was not bunk, this whole thing would have been settled years ago?

The problem almost certainly comes down to this: MSG wants X million dollars, and it probably figures Comcast has more than enough money to pay it. Comcast doesn't want to "cave in" to MSG, as then it would have to do the same with every other regional sports network; Comcast, being the business that it is, tries to estimate how many people would want MSG at a particular cost (taking into account things like people leaving if their rate suddenly went up by $10/month in their current tier versus people leaving if MSG simply is not available). Neither side appears to be budging. I say "appears to" because, like every other negotiation/standoff in the past, neither side is saying a word as to how things stand at the moment, and if it is like all of the other negotiations, neither side will until it is settled.

Note that Comcast didn't even blink when I left in 2010 or so for AT&T U-Verse for about 9 years; it can afford to use you and whichever of your neighbors you can talk into switching to Verizon when it gets to your area.

Optimum offers it, Verizon offers it, Direct TV offers it, heck even Fubo offers it. What makes Comcast not able to afford to eat some of the cost? Don’t like to assume but it sounds like you’re not a sports fan so maybe it doesn’t matter to you. It does matter to me. 4 local professional sports teams should be offered by my local cable monopoly. The few dollars we got back for the Regional Sports Fee when they dropped MSG was another slap in the face. Bunk!

One more point. Call them and tell them you’re leaving and they’ll offer you some “special package” that will knock $30 off your bill.

Hey you can always pay the $30 for MSG plus or a whooping $10 per game...

But will those games be blacked out locally like Yankees games are on MLBtv?

the games are aired locally on the msg network so i would hope they wouldn't be blacked out. that would be insane. not that i would put it past any company lol
