Losing all StarzEncore channels and MoviePlex

Today 9/4/2020 checking my September billing statement I will be losing all StarzEncore channels and also MoviePlex on Oct 27,2020. Having the digital preferred package I have been recieiving these channels since the onset of my "contract" over 1 & 1/2 yrs. (I am a 20 yr Comcast customer) Will there be any compensation from Comcast since this is NOT the "contract" I had agreed to sign besides providing inferior Streampix channels, of course NOT, unless I sign a subscrption to recieve Strarz (of course price NOT listed on the bill).

Since TCM was my favorite channel I also had to sign up for the Sports and Entertainment package another jab by Comcast.

Anyone else feel this is a common unethical and deceitful way of Comcast business practices.

This is the note on my bill:

  • Effective October 27, 2020, StarzEncore, StarzEncore Westerns, StarzEncore Black, and StarzEncore Action will only be available with a subscription to Starz. They will not be included with Digital Preferred/Preferred. For more information about this change, visit xfinity.com/EncoreChanges. Effective October 27, 2020, MoviePlex will no longer be available.

Hello All, thanks for reaching out to our Digital Care Team on our Forums page. We absolutely appreciate you all being customers with us and definitely understand your concerns and frustrations around these channels being removed or moved. Every month, Comcast pays programmers like networks, local TV station owners, and others for the ability to bring their programming to you. We regularly review our programming and sometimes make changes to ensure we're offering a wide variety of programming at the best value. We look at a variety of factors, including customer viewership and programming costs, when making these decisions. Per a new programming agreement with Starz, we removed the channel from our packages, but it's still available by a la carte subscription only. As part of our new agreement with Starz, we have removed MoviePlex from our Xfinity TV channel lineup.

We hear your feedback, concerns, and disagreements around this and appreciate it. I have successfully passed this information along to upper management.

If you would like assistance with checking for any available promotions to help lower your overall monthly bill like some of you have stated, we would love to help. Can you please send me a Private Message including your first and last name as it appears on the account?

Today I was told by Comcast that Streampix is replacing the Starz channels.  I've just taken a look at Streampix.  If I wanted to watch 1960's cowboy TV shows this would be nice.  I just updated my channel listings with Comcast a month ago and there was no mention of losing Starz.  This is a scam.

I'd like a refund of $8.99 + tax per month.

You should have thought of that before.  These customers of your tv need things done before these changes happen. You all never ask the customer what they want until after you remove channels. We're tired of paying rebroadcast fees and sports fees.  You're the only company that charges for equipment fees, HD FEES, and additional outlet, while all the others allow viewing on more than 1 tv and offering free DVR.  You took Starz Encore channels away and try to lie by blaming it on Starz.  You think I will pay the same price for Digital Preferred when several Starz channels are taken away, you're nuts.  You offer no lowering the price for less channels. Bye Bye comcast tv!

Why can't we get our channels ala carte? I don't watch many channels that are left after the numerous channel removals over the past number of years. Seriously why is this not an option?

If they were necessary increases, charges, and changes, the smaller companies that are struggling to survive should be the ones doing those sort of practices.

My encore was removed and I don’t get the replacement channels. So I really lost out but still pay $220+

Thnak you for your post. I was just about to post the same displeasure with the removal of premium channels for which there are neither no replacement channels offered, nor a reduction in billing to compensate for the reduction in product. First, TCM was taken out of my package and inserted into that incongruous sports package (at an added hefty cost!). that I have no interest in. Now, I lose the Starz Encore channels and MoviePlex is also yanked. Yet, my bill has inched up. When Icalled and was finally able to get past the automated Xfinity gatekeeper that shields the human customer service reps from the customers, the agent could only express to me that the company was far more disappointed that I lost the channels than I could ever be, but he made sure to repeatedly inform me that I could get an even more expensive package as a remedy. It may not be Xfinity's fault if a provider ends a relationship, but it's unfair to victimize me.

I agree this is ridiculous. As though they don't change enough, they continue to take channels away.  I am looking for a new provider. This is not worth it. First my TCM then starz now epic and starz others. 😡 unhappy costumer right here. Looks like I'm back to satellite or giving internet base watching a shot. Do better xfinity cable isn't cheap!

I agree. If we have a contract with Comcast and you take away channels I was paying for you/Comcast should cover the cost to your “loyal” customers!

ComcastAmira,

It is not fair to customers who are forced to commit to a package for 24 months, yet you can remove channels from that package and lower it's value at will. If you have agreements that expire and are forced to remove channels from packages, then you should add them back ala carte at no cost to the customer.

I agree with your sentiments about the StarzEncore channels. I lost channels that I had for years.  (I did not have MoviePlex).  Comcast /Xfinity continually manipulates its channel lineup to force people to pay more money for television.   This is probably why it continues to lose customers at an alarming rate.  I believe C/X is trying to make up its losses on the back of long-time, paying customers.

When I have called about television specials or deals I receive double talk from agents.  They repeatedly tell me there is nothing they can do unless I give up channels.  I am told I must give up, for example, the ID Channel to reduce my bill.  I live in an apartment building.  I was told that if moved to another unit in the same building that I would lose the ID channel.   There is some dispute between the ID channel and C/X over fees.  This is what an agent told me.   I told the agent that such a dispute should not be customer's problem.

Television packages and rates should be posted on the company's website.  On 11/15/20, I tried to find information about packages and was directed to a screen that said "Sorry".

I have also asked about reduced rates for senior citizens.  C/X representatives have told me there are no such things.  There should be.

I am a shareholder in this corporation and I do approve of the way C/X has treated me and other customers.   They can and should do better.

I hope Tom Karinshak sees this post.

There will be a point in time Comcast has more cable cutters as wireless and streaming services take over. For now we are a but a small nuisance for Comcast
