Marquee Network head of operations worried Comcast won't renew in September.  New Chicago Sports Network (Sox, Bulls, Blackhawks)

starting up Oct 1.  Based on Comcast's track record with Bally, I'm glad I am not on a contract.

I remember when Marquee was added a few years ago, and the RSN jumped by like $5-$6. Good riddance if Comcast drops them.

It's all about the dollars...will they benefit from saving you $5-$6  a month or losing my soon to  increase payment of $356 month?

They're basically daring people to cancel at this point but hoping that inertia will keep most around no matter what they do or how much they charge. Those most likely to cut the cord and go to streaming have already done it. Those left are mostly older people and sports fans who really don't want to leave but will if they're pushed far enough by either losing what they love or being charged way more than they can still justify.
