E. W. Scripps Programming Agreement Expired

E. W. Scripps cable network programming is currently unavailable as our agreement with E. W. Scripps has expired.

Please know we pay programmers to bring you the entertainment you love, and a number of reasonable offers have been made and they haven’t been accepted. Comcast is working toward bringing back this programming, but only with fair pricing, terms, and conditions for customers. I know unexpected changes to your TV lineup can be frustrating, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

I just contacted Xfinity and this is what I was told. Then the agent ended the chat and did not even let me respond. Nor did he actually do anything about a refund. Guess we’ll be finding a new provider. In the world today with all of the options, no one has to put up with this.

“As a customer myself, I understand the value of stable services, and we are extremely sorry for this issue.

However, the partnership with the channel lineup has been canceled, and the ABC channel will be removed from the cable. It will not return with Xfinity. I sincerely apologize for this, but we can assist you with a refund for this channel. Thank you so much for choosing Xfinity! Have a great day, and I hope your day ends on a positive note.

Bhumi left the chat.

Live chat ended.

Thank you for contacting us.”

Good evening @user_9ffa05, and thank you for reaching out on our Community Forums, we appreciate it. On March 31, 2026, Comcast’s agreement with E. W. Scripps to carry its programming expired.

Comcast compensates programmers to deliver the entertainment, news, and sports our customers value. We work to negotiate fair and reasonable terms to ensure the best value for customers, especially given the many ways content can be accessed today. While Comcast has made multiple reasonable proposals, E. W. Scripps has not accepted them. We continue working toward an agreement that would allow this programming to return under fair pricing and terms for our customers.

For additional details, please visit: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/ew-scripps-agreement-expired.

Comcast is proactively issuing credits to some Xfinity Video customers who:

  • Lost programming due to the E. W. Scripps contract expiration and
  • Pay an itemized Broadcast TV (BTV) fee

Credit amounts range from $1.70 to $9.62, depending on individual customer circumstances.

Please note:

  • Only customers who pay a Broadcast TV (BTV) fee are eligible for a credit.
  • Customers who do not pay a BTV fee will not receive a credit.

Eligible customers will receive their credit on May 1 or on their next billing cycle.

Hey there BitsyB, we appreciate you joining us here on the community forums! Is the channel not working at all for you? If so, are you receiving an error code or message when trying to access it, or do you just get a blank screen?

Thanks for clarifying! We don't have information about a credit for the expiration just yet, but please know that Comcast is working toward bringing back this programming, but only with fair pricing, terms, and conditions for customers. This is FOX! Not ESPN 8. to make this channel unavailable on a current sub subscription and to not give a credit is insane. if this were football season, it would be outrageous.

Xfinity / Comcast has had no problem constantly raising cable plan rates every chance you get. NOW you claim poverty since Scripps (WXYZ ABC Detroit here)isn't meeting your demands?

SO, when do viewers get a refund on OUR monthly bills for a very valuable channel service YOU are no longer providing US ??

Settle this, bring back our programs! Currently we're watching them on YouTube and Firestick - So. You can be replaced.

Subject: Formal Complaint: Scripps Blackout During Tornado Emergency — Corporate Greed Over Public Safety
To Whom It May Concern at Comcast Executive Leadership,
I am writing as a paying Comcast subscriber in Michigan to lodge a formal and serious complaint regarding your ongoing blackout of Scripps Broadcasting stations on your service. This is not a billing issue or a simple channel dispute. This is a matter of public safety and your company's actions this week put lives at risk.
This week, Michigan experienced severe weather with confirmed tornado touchdowns. During that emergency, I was unable to access my local Scripps station and the meteorologist I rely on for life safety weather information. Your carriage dispute with Scripps left me and countless other Michigan subscribers without access to emergency weather coverage during an active tornado event. That is completely unacceptable.
I want to be clear about the financial reality behind this dispute.
Comcast recorded a net profit of nearly $20 billion in 2025. That is a 23.5% increase from the $16.2 billion profit you posted in 2024. Your company generated over $123 billion in revenue. Scripps, the company you are currently squeezing in negotiations, lost money in every single quarter of 2025. The power imbalance in this negotiation is not lost on me.
While Comcast was accumulating these record profits, your executives were compensated as follows according to your most recent proxy filings:
CEO Brian Roberts received $33.86 million in total compensation. President Mike Cavanagh received $28.26 million in total compensation. CFO Jason Armstrong received $15.1 million in total compensation, a 30% increase from the prior year. Chief Legal Officer Thomas Reid received $14.1 million, also an increase.
And then there is the matter of the corporate aircraft. According to Comcast's own SEC proxy filings, the personal use of company provided aircraft by your top executives generated $5.9 million in disallowed tax deductions in a single year. That is $5.9 million in private jet perks for personal use, not business travel, in one year alone.
The average Michigan worker earns approximately $51,342 per year. Your CEO's compensation is roughly 660 times that amount. The private jet benefit alone equals what 115 average Michigan workers earn in an entire year.
I also want to point out something I found deeply troubling while reviewing your proxy filings. The only executive on your named officer list who took a pay cut was Jennifer Khoury, your Chief Communications Officer. She received $5.5 million in 2024, down from $5.6 million the year before. Every male executive I reviewed either held steady or saw a significant increase. The one woman I could identify among your highest paid executives is the one who got less. I will leave it to you to explain how that reflects your company's stated values.
And yet with all of this, Comcast cannot come to terms with a local broadcaster so that I can watch the weather during a tornado warning.
This is greed, plain and simple. You are a near monopoly provider in many Michigan markets. I cannot simply switch providers the way I might change where I buy groceries. You know that and you use that leverage without restraint against both content providers like Scripps and against the subscribers who fund your profits and have no real recourse.
I am demanding the following:
1. Immediate restoration of all Scripps Broadcasting stations on Comcast Xfinity service.
2. A prorated credit for every day Scripps stations have been unavailable on my account.
3. A written explanation of the steps Comcast is taking to reach a resolution and a projected timeline for doing so.
4. A commitment that during any future carriage dispute, local emergency broadcast access will be maintained without interruption.
I intend to share this letter with the Michigan Attorney General's office, the Federal Communications Commission, and my state legislators. [Edited: "Solicitation"]
You posted $20 billion in profit. Your executives flew private. Your male executives got raises. And I could not watch the weather during a tornado.
Michigan residents deserve far better than this.

I will be cancelling my internet and xfinity streaming service if this doesn't return soon.  I can get TMobile home internet cheaper and stream cable from YouTubeTV, Sling, and others.

Xfinity/ Comcast has no problem charging their customers excessive fees, they obviously could pay Scripps, but would rather lose paying customers, by the way , Xfinty/ Comcast is still offering the the programing from Scripps in their advertising , which would constitute fraud on their part..

Maybe if the FCC paid attention to this issue instead of Kimmell this could be resolved. Everyone on this support chain should send a complaint to the FCC!

How long is Xfinity and Scripps going to hold our NBC station hostage? Xfinity claims they want to keep our service affordable, but $300 a month for poor choices of stations and frequent price increases for no reason is NOT affordable in any way! I'm looking at alternatives NOW

Good Morning, @user_j9w5w7! Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to us here on the Xfinity Forums. I do completely understand the frustrations, and I do apologize about the inconvenience. You will receive an updated information if the programs become available again.

Comcast pays programmers to bring customers the entertainment, information, and sports they want. Comcast works to negotiate fair terms in order to ensure the greatest value for customers, given all the ways content can be accessed today. A number of reasonable offers have been made that E. W. Scripps hasn’t accepted. Comcast continues to work towards making this programming available again with fair pricing and terms for our customers.

I know what exfinity is doing.  They want to push getting streaming bundles so the consumer can get the channels they had for more money.  And when they charge you for a new modem to handle the extra streaming traffic, you’re doubly [Edited: "Language"] .

@user_kycfqt The NBC issue is related to ongoing negotiations with Scripps broadcasting to carry their content. We always hate to lose content people love. But I can assure you we are not doing so to push you to pay for a 3rd party streaming that we are competing with. Also, all of our internet plans include the modem for no extra charges now.

The contract between Xfinity & Scripps should have been negotiated and settled prior to the expiration of their contract. We have been without NBC, a major network for one week now with no settlement in sight. We are paying for a service that we are not fully receiving. Please solve this ASAP or we may have to seek other alternatives.

Nearly a month has passed since we lost NBC programming in Florida. I’ve had to stream NBA playoff games and if we don’t get NBC back before the Kentucky Derby we will find a new provider. Our internet quality through Comcast hasn’t been great lately, so this programming standoff is just the incentive we need to switch providers.
