E. W. Scripps Programming Agreement Expired

E. W. Scripps cable network programming is currently unavailable as our agreement with E. W. Scripps has expired.

Please know we pay programmers to bring you the entertainment you love, and a number of reasonable offers have been made and they haven’t been accepted. Comcast is working toward bringing back this programming, but only with fair pricing, terms, and conditions for customers. I know unexpected changes to your TV lineup can be frustrating, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

I have been a Comcast subscriber for 25 plus years, and it is my most expensive utility. If Scripps programing is not restored, specifically WPTV, our LOCAL NBC provider, I will cancel ALL services with Comcast by June 1st of 2026. It is absolutely outrageous that local programing that is available for FREE over the air is not included with cable service. My bill over the past several years averages around $225 per month. The clock is ticking Comcast.....

Hello, @user_dbb69i

Thanks for reaching out about the loss of channels owned by E. W. This is not an inconvenience, WPTV is LITERALLY the channel that is on 75% of the time my TV is on.  Comcast has removed programming, yet did not lower the bill.  Again, I WILL cancel all Comcast services if the programming is not restored, and I encourage the entire community to follow suit.  I can literally watch WPTV for free with an antenna, why would I continue to pay Comcast going forward.  The clock is ticking......

I for one am also upset with Comcast. This is some sort of ploy by Comcast to force their customers to subscribe to streaming networks to make more money. These channels are part of our contract with you and will be calling every month to get the discount I am forced to subscribe to just so I can get what I was paying for. Your cable subscription prices are outrageous to begin with and Comcast is lucky you still have customers!!!!!!!@!

I agree wholeheartedly.  We too watch NBC quite a bit and it is a network channel that anyone without this cable service has access to.  It is not as though we are talking about a premium channel that was deleted.  We have tried all of the avenues to watch some of our favorite shows but cannot get local or national news unless we watch national the day after and streaming on peacock for the other shows we enjoy is very jumpy and endless commercials.  I feel it is time for all of us to look at other options as paying this much for reduced services is ridiculous and it seems that the only response to complaints is to blame Scripps indicating that we are being “saved” from higher fees that they have no problem increasing for other reasons

If this issue is not resolved soon I will be changing to an alternate service. We continue to loose viewing and don’t get any compensation on our bill also we are charged for service if there is a problem. This is ridiculous.

THIS HAS GONE ON WAY TO LONG! I pay way too much for this service to not be able to get NBC. Our community is looking in to changing cable contracts and as right now, I can’t wait. I’ve been an Xfinity customer for multiple years and I am SO DISAPPOINTED! WE NEED Compensation for the month and possibly months of no NBC.  GET IT TOGETHER!

Xfinity and Scripps need to get to a resolution soon!  With what we already pay I don’t understand what the issue is. If this goes on much longer I will look for an alternative to Comcast/Xfinity.

Your financial disagreement with Scripps is going to cost you a lot of customers. Many people that I know who have paid for cable for years are disgusted with this, including myself. You're going to lose many clients to streaming platforms when you take away the most popular local news channel in the area. I've already cut my cable in half and I'm discovering how little I need it, especially if I now have to find and stream the local news team that I've watched for over 25 years.

We are aware that there are contract negotiations going on with Scripps. However, it seems to be out of standstill for too long. It’s always been a public accessible station. I understand that other parts of the country aren’t having this problem. It seems like there needs to be something else done besides penalizing your customers we will have to make another choice for a provider if it doesn’t change soon. .

@XfinityEmilyB Will Comcast be partially refunding customers who are paying Broadcast TV Fees ($42.70) every month.

Why punish customers to pay for something that they are receiving.

@user_jppr0k that is a great question regarding the Broadcast TV fee, and partial credits.

Yes, starting on May 1st partial credits will start to be applied for customers in affected areas that have the Broadcast TV fee on their statement will receive partial credit. Please keep an eye your upcoming statement(s) that print after May 1st.

I understand that Xfinity and Scripps are struggling to negotiate; HOWEVER, I pay to have ABC available and I think it would be appropriate to discount all monthly bills until this is resolved.  This is a corporate problem not a customer problem.
thank you
