dvr keep issue

I've setup a number of series recordings and use the "keep" feature to just keep only 10 episodes of a program. Why is this feature no longer working? The dvr keeps recording the program beyond 10 episodes till it fills the dvr. I've tried resetting the series recording and reset the dvr but it is still recording beyond the number set in the "keep" setting.
