Discover Plus

So, from now on, in order to get some Discovery programming, we must subscribe to Discovery Plus, that I understand.  Understand that Comcast/Xfinity did not make that decision. I just cannot understand why we cannot watch Discovery Plus on our TVs if we subscribe, why it will not be in our guide lineups.  Am I the only one who would prefer to watch the programming on my large TV instead of on a smaller computer or worse yet on an even smaller phone? 

I pretty much do not know why I pay for an Xfinity package at this point. It costs me $240 a month because I added HBO and Showtime. Now that everything is becoming an app that you can buy, why have a package if they don't include it at these high prices. My kids keep telling me to get rid of cable that I don't need it. I don't understand why Xfinity has not made it possible for people to have a menu with channels they want and let people choose what they want. I don't watch Spanish channels at all so why do I have to have them. Xfinity needs to give people extras if they pay for these expensive packages. If Verizon can give you Discovery Plus, Xfinity certainly can. Another idea is to give long time customers some perks for a change. I have been with Comcast/Xfinity for decades and I get nothing for my loyalty. It is always about the new customers. When will these companies get it!

I completely agree!  As it is, I don't like streaming anything, especially if I am confined to watching it on my computer or iphone.  It isn't the same as being able to watch it on my big TV in a comfy chair.  I am very upset with Discovery for doing this.  Shows I have watched for years may no longer be available on regular Discovery Channels.  It is a total disregard for loyal viewers.

There is no way adding a streaming service would be truely free. If Comcast started throwing in Discovery +, CBSAA/Paramount +, etc... you would almost certainly see your cable bill go up. And that would be for EVERYONE, even if they don't use streaming.

The world is moving away from bundled cable packages of many companies and into individual corporate packages. In a few years, most linear programming will probably be gone and it will all be streaming/OnDemand type programming.

If you mean SEPARATELY subscribing to Discovery +, you can watch it on your TV. You just currently need a Smart TV that supports it, or a 3rd party device like a Roku. You will NEVER see a company-owned product like X1 offering a wide selection. Even Roku is having issues making agreements to offer channels on their devices since they don't have the deep pockets of an Amazon, Apple, or Comcast. They make their money from hardware sales, software licensing, and ads on the devices.

@tracietv2 I think you make some very good points.  Theoretically, signing up for a cable bundle is less expensive than picking and choosing all the individual services you want to see.  Plus, it's more convenient to get all your services in one place instead of having to navigate among firesticks and sling boxes etc, etc.  But with more and more channels offering their services as apps, it's a lot easier to compare the actual price of what you want with the price of the bundle.  And with apps now having unique content, enticing to consider.

Xfinity has tried to play the convenience angle, making apps such as Netflix, Prime, etc. available through their boxes.  It's easier to just keep what you've got and watch the apps through your cable box.  But it might come back to bite them.  At some point, I'll seriously think about cutting back my cable service to just the local channel package, and watch everything else I want through apps I sign up for,  and still watch them through the cable box.  Maybe not as cheap as cutting the cable completely, but more convenient.

If you have any TV service from Comcast, your clicks, recordings, and viewing are monitored and sold. If you have Internet service from Comcast, your DNS lookups and searches and most everything is also collected and sold.

When will Discovery Plus App be available on Flex?
