Discover Plus

Will there be an extra chage on my bill for DiscoverPlus. My current plan gets all the programs mentioned in Discover plus advertising

@Cg2003
There is nothing presently on cable box. Search this thread or a simple Google search for compatible devices

Please excuse me if this information has alreay been shared:

If you use Verizon they are offering Discover Plus for free. So any wireless customers w/Verizon should take advantage of that offer. Just like Verizon offers to pay for Disney+, Hulu and Apple Music, if you have a certain wireless plan.

There is also the option of getting the proper smart TV that includes apps like Discovery Plus and many more. That way you can keep your Comcast/Xfinity subscription but also use the TV apps so you can watch all your content in one place and without paying extra.

So, Xfinity will continue to charge us the already high monthly rate, but now we’ll also need to subscribe (for additional fee) to Discovery + of we want to be able to watch many of the shows we were already watching before Discovery +.
Why do we need xfinity?

Exactly. We watch very little TV but haven’t cut the cable because of my wife’s love of HGTV. Well guess what?! Goodbye high xfinity bill!

Who is your alternative internet provider? If you are like us, we have no real alternative. If you didn’t notice they also implemented data caps on their formerly unlimited internet plans to catch people shifting to streaming services. Now you have to either pay MORE for an unlimited data or risk exceeding the 1.2tb, which I already do with three people teleworking 100% and a big time gamer in the house.

I have AT&T as my internet provider. I have Comcast for cable TV. All of the things on Comcast that says internet required, I cannot access because even though I have internet, it's not theirs.

Not presently available on X1 cable boxes, do a google search for compatible devices

So shows go away and there’s no way to get them without shelling out $$$ for compatible devices. And $$$ for D+.

As a consumer, do what you have to do. Comcast is responsible for channels being there, they have no control over content. Apps on X1 boxes take months, they don’t materialize instantly, especially in a pandemic

It is a streaming service to provide their content. It exists so Discovery Networks has total control of what their customers see and how. There is no need for a cable tv provider for determine which of their channels they carry, nor financial deals. People objected to cable providers choosing what they provide. Basically they get 100% of the subscriber fees. They are edging traditional cable out.

Why does Discovery Plus exist? This is bad. I’m a widow now and pay well over $200/ month for Comcast as it is! And I don’t even have any movie channels!!! So what’s going to happen to the original Discovery?!?!!??

Discovery will be right where it is, but there’s no guarantee they will keep all of the same shows or air the new episodes there first.

Drop cable tv and choose to pay for only what you choose to stream.
