My issue is if I record 4 programs in one night & want to have them start 2 minutes early, or end 5 minutes late. It takes about 10 steps to modify each program which means I have to go through about 40 steps to change the start and/or stop times. And that's just for one day. That's crazy. Dish let me change the default times therefore you only had to do it once & it stayed that way because it was the default setting. Same way for my HTPC. Why does Xfinity make me go through all the same steps for every individual scheduled recording? Let me do it once & be done with it.
@user_793642 - Thank you for visiting the Xfinity Forums for more information on how you're able to edit the start and stop times for your Xfinity DVR. Great question, we can help! After setting up a recording for the Xfinity X1, you have the ability to extend the start or stop time of a recorded program, here is how.
As mentioned, I want to make the change just one time for all future recordings. I don't want to have to repeat the 10 step process for every single program I schedule.
So - where do I find the setting to change the default start & stop times?
We will pass your feedback along. Here is our great Xfinity link https://comca.st/3QCJCml that will go over it with pictures. Also, here are the steps from the link.
Press the xfinity button on the remote.
Use the arrow buttons on the remote to highlight Saved and press OK.
Highlight Scheduled and press OK.
Highlight a program to modify and press OK.
Highlight Record Options and press OK.
Highlight Modify and press OK.
Highlight Just this episode and press OK.
Highlight the Start time and use the left or right arrow buttons to modify - select either 1 or 2 minutes early.
Highlight the Stop time and use the left or right arrow buttons to modify - select between 1, 5 or 30 minutes late (options for live programming - 30, 60 or 90 minutes late).
That's the problem. I have to go through all those steps every time I schedule a single program. There should be a way to do this just once & have it apply to all programs by default.
I need to stop the recording EARLY, not LATE, to remove the 1.5 hours that XFinity automatically adds to live football games.
Presumably the box pads scheduled recording time in case game runs late and XFinity automatically extends my recording.
Here's an example:
Record Ravens v. Dolphins, Guide says it runs 1:00 - 4:00 PM. Under Recording Options - Stop ON TIME. Look under Scheduled Recording, it says recording schedule is 12:59 - 5:55 PM.
Record Bengals v. Cowboys. Guide says 4:25 - 7:30 PM. Scheduled Recording says 4:24 - 9:00 PM.
Try to record the program that follows the first game, starting at 4:00 PM. "CONFLICT: ...The 1:00p - 5:55p game will not record"
So because the system automatically schedules 1.5 hours at the end of national live sports telecasts, I can't record that event and and also record the program that immediately follows it. If a channel offers two games in a row (the "early game" and "late game") I need to utilize both tuners, not one.
Am I missing something?
Why can't I stop Xfinity from automatically changing scheduled start and end times?
I don't want to record the football game, I want to record what follows it. Problem is I can't add 90 minutes. Actually I'd like to add 2 hours because sometimes football runs over by more than 90 minutes.
If a live event runs over by 90 minutes that means the following program gets pushed back by 90 minutes. Doesn't Xfinity know this? Yet I can't add 90 minutes to the following program because it's not a live event.
To insure I get all of my program I have to have to record a couple extra programs that follow my program. That's a poor way to handle the situation.
@user_793642 - the problem with what you are describing is, what if the show you want to record is 30 minutes after the football game, or 60, or 90? There's going to be a point where the station is going to shorten a program (either join one in progress, or, if it's a live show like a news program, just shorten it), but there's no way Comcast can know in advance when that's going to happen. Also, there needs to be a way for the broadcast to be able to signal to the box that the game has ended and the next show is starting - otherwise, adding 90 minutes to a start time means you get the show that started an hour after yours if the football game ran "only" 30 minutes long. I have heard contradictory answers concerning whether or not this technology exists.
@user_72a385 Thank you for reaching out regarding your DVR recording concern, to verify, this is only happening to live sports recordings and nothing else?
I no longer work for Comcast.

Last football season I never had a program shortened or deleted if it followed a football game. I was always able to record all of my program. But I had to record 2 or 3 programs that followed the football game.
Comcast does not have to know if a program is running late. They let me manually add 90 minutes to a football game so why not be consistent & let me manually add 90 minutes to other programs.

Same issue here. Cannot two football games in a row with one tuner because the box starts early and adds and hour to end. Frustrating.
