Boomerang Channel Says "This Channel is No Longer Available."

I have this channel and have confirmed twice with Xfinity that this channel is still in my package and they are puzzled as to what is going on. Since I was the only one who reported this issue so far, they didn't have much to go on. I'm sure I am not the only one missing this channel and I'm guessing everyone in my area is. Last night the channel just went black and had, "This Channel is No Longer Available." And I found out Xfinity was doing maintenance in the area. The tech swore the channel would be back after work was completed but it wasn't. The tech from today was much more helpful and tried to find an issue but didn't see anything wrong from their end so he made a report and told me to call tomorrow if the channel doesn't appear. He says there is no reason for the channel not to be working. I thought maybe Boomerang itself was off the air and maybe having issues but seems too much of a coincidence that this began right when Xfinity was working in the area.

I don't expect anyone on the forum to diagnose this problem but I was just curious if anyone else in the Houston area was missing this or any other channels. I believe this might be the only channel missing but of course, I didn't check every single channel so can't be sure. This is so weird and I can't understand how Xfinity can have no answer. I hope today others start reporting this same issue and maybe we'll get somewhere.

Back on Feb 11, somebody posted on another site that there was a notice in their bill:

Here in Houston, we got 2 notices:
* Xfinity TV Update: Effective March 22, 2022, AFRO SD will be dropped from channel 401, and Kids Street SD will be dropped from channel 498. AFRO will continue to be available in HD IP on channel 1623, and Kids Street will continue to be available in HD IP on channel 1722. An X1 TV box and HD programming (not included, additional charges may apply) are required to view AFRO & Kids Street.
* Xfinity TV Update: Effective April 5, 2022, Boomerang will no longer be available.

I called and they said it is a contract issue. It may or may not be back on. It depends on if Comcast agrees on a new contract with them. My suggestion is everyone call and complain, saying they want the channel back. He said there is a list they keep of who all has called wanting the channel. Tell them you want to be added.

Thank you for this message. We have been trying to figure out why “this channel is no longer available”. I guess I make a call tomorrow morning and complain to them about it.

Same thing here (Houston). Called yesterday afternoon and the rep had no idea what caused the issue and put in a ticket. My children watch this channel faithfully every day so this is unacceptable. One has autism and was sad it was gone. Ended up buying the Boomerang Channel on Prime.

Xfinity needs to either come to an agreement or at least reimburse for the extra money spent on top of their high monthly rates. We’re fine with either.

It is most likely permanently gone. It was only available on Comcast in a few areas where they had bought other cable systems that carried it. Once the old contracts expired, Comcast has dropped it.

It is available as a streaming service.

Thanks for commenting. I am glad to see others having the same issue. I disagree that the channel is gone, at least because of Comcast. If that's the case, Comcast would've said the channel was being dropped like they always do when they drop a channel, and the channel would be gone. We've had Comcast off and on for years and this is not what happens when they drop a channel. Consumers would be informed and it would be in the media, etc. You'd be able to easily find it online if something was dropped and again, never has anything said, "This channel is no longer available." When Comcast drops something. They would remove the entire channel.

About the contract issue, same thing. In think, if this was the case it would be online somewhere or had made some kind of news. I found nothing to suggest anything is going on between Xfinity, Boomerang, etc. That's why it's so strange. Also, the reps would know if it's a contract dispute I'm guessing and they clearly said they don't know what's going on. And again, in my case, everything was fine until Xfinity did that maintenance. They were doing maintenance when the channel disappeared.

I'd be more inclined to think either Xfinity screwed something up during the maintenance or there is an issue with Boomerang itself. Maybe the channel is having issues but it seems weird this happened when they were doing maintenance. If it just happened all of a sudden and they weren't messing around with things, I'd think something else.

But, yeah I think there would be some evidence that Xfinity dropped Boomerang, somewhere. It would at least be online. I've seen nothing suggesting that and don't see why the reps wouldn't just say that if it happens. I really think it's a glitch. One rep said it might be a single issue that is affecting that channel. We'll see.

I called again and guess I got someone who knew something. Unfortunately, she said the company that owns the channel decided not to stay with Xfinity. There was no dispute or anything just supposedly the company decided not to continue. This is disappointing. I loved Boomerang and it was one of probably 3-4 channels I watch regularly. Most of the time I am watching apps. This is very disappointing but what is worse is Xfinity didn't inform people what was going on. She said they sent emails but I didn't get one and if they did send them out, how come others seem to not know what is going on. If they aren't carrying the channel anymore, then they need to take it off their package completely instead of just having a black screen there. First, they get rid of McAfee Security now this. Even if it's not Xfinity's fault, they could've been more diligent in letting customers know what was going on. But yeah, this is a bummer. Boomerang was my favorite channel. I'm not buying another streaming channel so unless they bring it back I won't be watching it. No more Scooby Doo and Tom and Jerry!!!

@StacyR1 Look through your previous months bills. You need to look at the FULL bills. As I noted in another reply, somebody from Houston had noted back in February that they had a notice it was being dropped on April 5.

I'm in Texas City, and received that same error message today, which led me to this forum. Not cool.

Boomerang was working fine this morning, and literally just now after watching the DVR saw the message the channel wasn’t available any more. Seriously uncool about it being gone.

I called and xfinity confirms that there was a notice in the bill that Boomerang service would no longer be available as of April 5, 2022. So sad!
