Xfinity Apple Gift Card Promotion Scam
On 9/16/26, an "Xfinity agent" called to inform that 50% discount on our acct was expiring . He gave the account holder name, the last payment amount and the last 4 digits of the credit card on the account.
“Agent Travis” offered a 3-yr $60/month promotion that required 1-year prepayment that was unusual, but I was willing to accept. When told to get Apple gift cards for the prepayment, I balked and asked to cancel the promotion. He then connected "Craig Johnson" at Comcast HQ who said there was a $399 cancellation fee. When told I would call the FCC, “Craig” said the cancellation fee could not be removed, threatened to cancel my Comcast account and would blacklist us with all cable providers. I hung up.
Later that day, I logged into Xfinity acct to check balance and discovered a new $399 charge with no explanation.
Payment issue: Called Xfinity Security Assurance. Bank payment was pending. Advise calling bank to dispute. Done.
Security issue: How did these scammers get our account information?
Does Comcast have a data leak or rogue staff? What will Xfinity Security Assurance do?
Is the $399 charge punishment for cancelling the fraudulent Apple Gift Card Promotion?
If the acct was compromised or hacked Comcast/Xfinity has a BIG SECURITY PROBLEM!
Warning to all: Report suspicious Gift Card promotions. Get hard details, such as cancellation fees, on all promotions!

The concern is not "Community Center" help related............ Topic moved here to the proper help section, and for greater exposure to Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.

Regarding the $399 charge, we would need to review the account and billing records to determine its source. Comcast does not charge cancellation fees for declining a promotional offer, and no legitimate promotion would require payment via Apple gift cards.

I have been the victim of an xfinity scam that included Xfinity allowing someone to allow an unauthorized phone purchase on my account with insurance and an added line. When I immediately called Xfinity about receiving a phone I did not order, they told me they would escalate my complaint to the fraud dept and that I needed to print a return label and take the phone to a FedEx store to mail it back. I argued that I shouldn’t have to do anything and that they should pick it up just as they had it dropped off. I finally agreed to send it back. Within minutes someone called and identified themseld as the Xfinity fraud dept and they would be taking over my complaint and also asked me to use the return label to return the phone.
I printed the most recent return label and returned the phone. As it turns out, the person from the fraud dept was actually the scammer and the phone was sent back to an address that is not Xfinity.
There was no way to know this using the return label. It said “Xfinity”.
This is a known scam to Xfinity. The first representative should have warned me and told me how to know the return label was legit.
Remember….I NEVER ORDERED THE PHONE TO BEGIN WITH. Xfinity allowed someone to access my account without my authorization. They failed to follow their own printed verification process. Their own account notes indicate that they were unable to send the customer agreement via text or email. THEY STILL ALLOWED THIS PURCHASE.
They have ultimately issued me a final decision of me being the victim of third party fraud….but say I am still responsible for the charge of $1100. They did remove the line and insurance???
The only thing Xfinity has responded to was my complaint placed through the
Federal Communications Commission at
https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us
They responded within 48 hours with a phone call specifically to address the complaint. They sent an email within next 24 hours saying their final decision remains because I signed for the phone. (I thought it was updated equipment as I had received a package the same way months before).
I will still have a chance for a rebuttal through FCC.
I would skip all the Xfinity useless phone calls and go straight to an FCC complaint to get the ball rolling. I’ve literally spent hours of my life trying to resolve this matter.
Xfinity was the victim of this scam and passed it on to me. They have not provided proof of their verification process for this order “because it was unavailable”. How convenient.
