Verified Student - Xfinity Chat Quoted $50 1 Gig Student Plan But Can't Apply It

I'm an existing Xfinity Internet customer of approximately two years. My current 1 Gig promotion is expiring and my rate is increasing.
I completed Xfinity's SheerID student verification successfully and received confirmation that my student status was approved.
Today, an Xfinity chat representative specifically told me that with the student discount, 1 Gig would cost $50/month. However, when I follow the verified student link and sign into my existing account, the student pricing does not appear.
The chat was then transferred to another representative who said residential billing cannot see my SheerID verification and initially told me I had to visit a retail store. Later in the same conversation, I was told the student discount can only be applied when setting up a new Internet plan and cannot be applied to an existing customer's account. The last time I went to a retail store was on the advice of customer support in regards to a billing issue. When I went to the retail store they told me that they could not help me.
I have the complete chat transcript and SheerID confirmation. Before I decide to take my business elsewhere, could an Xfinity Digital Care representative please review this and apply the $50 1 GB promotion to my existing account?

Hi @user_nomz5p,

I hope this semester has started off well for you! Sounds like you have learned a lot about the program already, but allow me to tie things together further. The student offer can only be added via self-service online or at a Xfinity store. The offering is only available on new accounts and cannot be added to existing accounts. You would essentially just need to start a student account up. As mentioned, you should be able to do so online or at the Xfinity store. With this information can you attempt to create the account, and let us know if it worked? Once complete, we can perform an account review for both accounts and make sure all has been resolved.

@XfinityJustinM Thank you, Justin. This is much more helpful than the information I received through chat. Before I create a second account, can you please confirm a few things so I don't accidentally interrupt my existing service?
If I create the new student account online using my verified student status and the same service address, will I qualify for the $50/month 1 Gig student offer even though I currently have an active Xfinity account at that address?
Also, once the new account is created, can your team close/migrate the existing account so that I am not billed for two Internet accounts, and can I continue using my existing Xfinity gateway without an interruption in service?
Finally, can you confirm how long the $50/month price is guaranteed and whether there are any additional equipment, unlimited-data, activation, or other monthly fees?
If all of that is confirmed, I'm happy to try creating the student account online.

No problem, @user_nomz5p. As long as it is a separate student account it should work, you'd be selecting the offering at the time of creation. We have limited visibility to the promotion, when you are selecting the offer at creation I would recommend taking your time to read through everything. I believe there is a 1-year price lock and a 5-year price lock. All of our new plans include unlimited data and equipment at no additional cost. We also don't have an activation fee for our internet services at this time. Once you get the account created, our team can help resolve your existing account. 😃

Before I proceed, I just want to clarify a couple of things because you mentioned that creating the separate student account “should work.”

Can you confirm that creating the new student account at my existing service address will not disconnect or otherwise interfere with my current Internet service while the new account is being set up?

Also, I already have an Xfinity gateway on my existing account. Can that same equipment be transferred to the new student account, or would Xfinity require me to receive and activate a new gateway?

I don't want to end up without Internet or have to unnecessarily swap equipment just to move from my existing account to the student account. Can you also confirm what the 1-year and 5-year price lock is?

Once you confirm those two points, I'm comfortable proceeding with creating the separate student account and then having your team resolve the existing account.

@user_nomz5p By creating the new account, you would have to start fresh with new equipment.  Since it's a new account you cannot use your existing modem. You have to receive and activate a new gateway, so you would have a short gap without internet.

I would recommend you find a day in the week or a few hours in your day when you can make the transition. You would set up the new account online and have the new modem sent out to you or pick it up without canceling the previous account. Once you have both, you could connect with us here to cancel the old account, so your new account can be activated with minimal downtime.

For clarification, we suggested reading the details on the student offers, so you are informed with the length of time the price is available to you. We may have offers for only one year at the student price or there may be 5 years at the student price. This means the price would not increase during the one year or the 5 years. Let me know if you still have questions.
