Service disconnection/equipment return fee

I let an unpaid balance become overdue for too long after the initial service shutoff had occurred and received an email saying that my service has been permanently disconnected. I was told I would need to return my modem and was charged a $100 equipment return fee. My unpaid bill as well as the return fee have been paid now. I’m wondering, do I still need to return the modem and begin the setup process from the start again or is there a way I can reinstate my service with my current modem?

Hello @user_a5d024, thanks for reaching out for help on our forums! Typically, if services are hard disconnected after 90 days then new service would need to begin along with new equipment. Please keep in mind the balance on the old account would need to be paid in full before a new account can be started.

@XfinityNico Ok thank you and yes the balance on my account is fully paid. So just to be clear I will need to return my current modem and start the service setup process from the beginning?

Yes that is typically what needs to be done. We are happy to take a look at your account if you desire just to make sure everything has been properly resolved. Please send us a message with your full name and address.

"Search for Xfinity Support" won't work. To send a "Direct Messaging" message to Xfinity Support:

  • Click "Sign In" if necessary

  • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

  • The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

  •  - As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

  •  - An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

  • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

  • Press Enter to send it
