FTC $499.99 refund scam using Comcast/Xfinity

I filed this report with the FTC and now will report it here. Peter identified himself as a Comcast/Xfinity technician. My husband granted him remote access to our computer. I came home shortly thereafter and took over the conversation. I took a screen shot with my phone and this is what it says verbatim, including typos:

xfinity tech - Notepad

technician name Peter [Edited: "Personal Information"]

employee id [Edited: "Personal Information"]

extension no 1009

the total no of events 8,594 regarding thge errors and warning reports overpaying for the stop services from 9/16/20

name = (my husband's name)

phone = (our landline)

email = (my email address)

address = (correct home address)

zip code = ( correct zip code)

#############################################################

Under the FTC Guidelines the refund is $499.99 follows the refund id [Edited: "Personal Information"]

Peter told me the ONLY way to receive the refund was to log into my bank account and click on "yes" next to the $499.99 posted on my account. I told him my bank did not offer yes/no options when a refund is posted to my account. I told him I certainly was not going to log into my bank account while he had remote access to my computer. I told him something was REALLY off about this and hung up.

There are many scams going on both phone and E-mail.  If you do not have problems always hang up or delete the E-mail.

Whenever I have a tech appointment set with Xfinity, I get spam calls from legitimate Xfinity numbers trying to cancel my appointment -- but also, I get scam calls (the last time was a fake Amazon order confirmation, constantly calling and leaving voicemails, 10 in one night. Conspicuously stopped after my appointment was done)

Super sketchy imo

Concern moved here to the Billing help section for greater exposure to the Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.

I was just part of the 50% off scam, and unfortunately I fell for it. Mostly because they knew all of my account details and said they would credit my account for 2 months of April and May payments, which they did. I can see the credit on my Xfinity account. But I paid them with the gift cards and then they called back saying the gift cards were defective and I needed to send it again. This sent up red flags right away. Wish it had occurred to me the first time!! Is there any way to get the money back? I have filed with FTC and FCC.
Is Xfinity helping customers who have been scammed or just saying we’re sorry?

"If it sounds too goo to be true, it usually is."  Caveat Emptor.  Buyer beware.

The FTC is aware of this scam so it's good that you reported it there.  Comcast most likely won't be refunding the money.  Sorry.
