Dispute of Final Balance & Equipment Charges
Hello,
I’m reaching out regarding an old Xfinity account that I just learned has been sent to Harris & Harris for collection.
I moved out of Maryland almost two years ago. At the time, I was renting the property from someone who told me he would take care of everything related to the move, and I also contacted Xfinity to cancel my service. As far as I was concerned, the account had been cancelled and handled.
I am extremely frustrated that I was not contacted about this outstanding balance or the equipment issue before the account was sent to collections. Had someone contacted me, this could have been addressed immediately, especially within the 120-day dispute period. Instead, nearly two years later, the first notice I received was that the account had already been transferred to Harris & Harris.
I also was never made aware that the equipment needed to be returned. I believed the equipment had been paid for when I originally started my service. My final bill now shows $205 in “unreturned equipment” charges ($150 and $55), in addition to the remaining balance.
I am requesting that Xfinity review the cancellation records and notes on my account, including my previous contact regarding cancellation, and provide an explanation of the two equipment charges and the equipment associated with each serial number.
If the service was not properly cancelled or I was not informed of the required equipment return during that process, I do not believe I should be held responsible for charges resulting from that failure.
Please review this account, correct any charges that were assessed incorrectly, and update Harris & Harris with the corrected balance. I would like the opportunity to resolve this directly rather than having a collection account resulting from an issue I was never given a reasonable opportunity to address.
Thank you,
