Providing closure comment so that others may benefit.
Xfinity support responded very quickly to my DM request to review my account.
They confirmed that records indicate return of Xfinity equipment, and that billing cycle will be updated and that internet service is provisioned for higher speed.
I also worked with them for the installation of new modem that would support the higher speed.
At all times the Xfinity support crew was responsive and helpful.
