Account canceled without consent after rep-approved "seasonal hold" — now billed $150 + mobile plan I was told would stay free
I'm a student in Chicago and need help resolving a billing issue caused by misinformation from an Xfinity representative. I wanted to put my Internet on hold for summer away from school and ended up spending hundreds of dollars.
Late May 2026 — Initial call:
I called to ask about pausing my internet for the summer while I'm away. The representative told me:
- I could place my internet account on a seasonal hold at a small monthly fee (unspecified)
- My introductory rate would be locked in and would last longer because of the hold
- Based on this, he persuaded and sold me on Xfinity Mobile, on the introductory offer of one year free, assuring me that keeping internet "on hold" (not canceled) meant my mobile plan would remain unaffected. I canceled my existing service plan for it!
I would not have signed up for Xfinity Mobile if my internet account was going to be canceled — the two were sold to me as a package specifically because internet stayed active (on hold).
What actually happened:
- June charge: $10.65 "Account Level Charges" — assumed this was the hold fee
- July 13: No bill, but $150 auto-deducted from my bank account. When I called, I was told this was an unreturned equipment/router charge that would be reversed when I restarted my internet in August.
- July 24: Additional "Account Level Charges" of $46.80 ($40 + tax)
- When I called on July 13, they told me my account had been canceled, not held when I called end of May. It had been mysteriously canceled in June -- I did not authorize that! I was told to call back when I wanted internet reconnected, at which point I'd get a "new offer" of $60/month instead of $40, and that the $150 would come back as a credit.
I need:
- Confirmation of what the May call actually authorized (hold vs. cancellation) — I'd like this pulled from the recorded call. I did NOT authorize what happened.
- Reversal of the $150 equipment charge, since the account was never supposed to be canceled and I was never asked to return equipment
- Restoration of my original introductory rate, as promised, when I reactivate internet (shortly -- August 1).
- Refund of the extra Xfinity Mobile plan charges and restoration of one free year ASAP. If you are not able to restore one free year, I will be canceling, but I require a refund as none of this was authorized.
I have the dates and charges documented above and I'm happy to provide account details via private message or phone call. I'd appreciate an Xfinity rep with account access looking into this asap. I feel conned and lied to by Xfinity and have a bad taste in my mouth.
