50% off discount on bill
I am aware this is a scam. I received a call today from an 855 number claiming to be Comcast xfinity. The message they left says this.
Hi there just calling to remind you that fifty percent discount offer on your comcast xfinity account expires today ... in order to avail the discount please call back at [Edited: "Personal Information"] from 08:00 AM to 05:00 PM Pacific Standard Time thank you and have a great day.
Like I said I am aware it's a scam. But I just wanted to add to what others have said. Comcast has been aware of this for quite some time and not once has anyone from Comcast attempted to warn their customers of these scams. Specially this 50% off scam. I see it's mentioned over and over again. I would think after several hundreds of inquiries about this that Comcast would have looked into it and then sent out a email and or letter to it's customers warning us. I cringe to think how many people especially elderly people that have been scammed out of a lot of money. It's not like banks just give us our money back. These people are out hundreds to thousands of dollars and not a word out of Comcast. I also am ready to switch to another company for better pricing and better concern from a company. My bill is ridiculous and there's no way to change plans unless you call a person. You can only add services without speaking someone. Comcast is perfectly OK with people adding more to get more money but if you want to remove services suddenly it's a concern and must speak with someone. No wonder people are falling for these scams being desperate to cut their bill down.

Omg this just happened to me and I fell for it!! Just yesterday, they are telling me I need to purchase a $300 target card to pay the first 6 months then I don’t have to pay for 6 months and my bill will be $50. somehow they have access to my account and waived my bill for this month. Then today they charged my account $190 cancellation fee because I haven’t paid the 300. When I called to ask about the cancellation they kept repeating the same thing over… you need to pay or we cancel then when I mentioned that it is a scam they got upset and hung up!!! This is a crazy mess 😡🤬
FYI- here is the number that left the message [Edited: "Personal Information"]

This a pretty elaborate scam. They sound just as if you care calling xfinity - state message being recorded etc, read out my last 4 digits of my account number, also knew I was an autopay customer, exact amount of my last bill (how did they get that?) etc. Knew a little too much personal info about my account. Said Apple was a sponsor and asked for a $400 upfront payment via applepay to receive the discount for 2 years with no contract. Here is the phone # [Edited: "Personal Information"]. Has xFinity made any attempt to shut this scam down?

I got this call just now and my neighbor almost fell for it. Beware any any such call. The number I got is from [Edited: "Personal Information"]. I m sure they are changing numbers but asking same approach to buy target gift card. Be mindful and do cross check.

I just got the same call from [Edited: "Personal Information"], I didn’t answer the call but let it go to voicemail. The number they told me to call was [Edited: "Personal Information"], I tried to call and it sounds almost legitimate. They have an automated menu and you have to make a selection. I did and it put me on hold, I just hung up. I just wanted to mess with them, I kind of knew it was a scam.

With regard to the 50% off scam:
1. It seems like Xfinity could put in more effort at shutting down scams, perhaps via its legal department instead of putting the whole thing on customers by telling us how to avoid them. Taking responsibility would be a good business decision and would make great advertising.
2. Another thing XFINITY could do to make these scams more obvious would be to greatly simplify its pricing structure, especially where it involves upgrading to newer phones. Since the current structure is far from transparent, it makes the claims of some scams seem reasonable.
3. And one more suggestion, add the option of email to connect with tech support. Some tech support questions are simply too complex to be dealt with via chat and no one has the time to wait on hold until someone can take your call. I does appear that Xfinity's main condos making things easier for its employees, not its customers. It would be really nice if the concern for users was really more than just the canned preamble in to a chat session.

I got a voicemail on my cell phone telling me I was eligible for a 50% discount if I called right away. The call came from [Edited: "Personal Information"] (supposedly Marcus, IA) and to get the discount I'd have to call [Edited: "Personal Information"]. When I did make the call, I heard what sounded like the typical Xfinity list of options. I selected billing and was directed to an associate. He knew my street address, the amount of my last bill and next bill, and the date due. He said they would cut my bill in half if I paid six months in advance. There would be no other charges until six months was up and then I'd get the half price rate monthly for the next three months. He also said I'd get three Premium channels for free. I don't usually get fooled but this was one slick operation. I told him I was interested and he said he'd transfer me to billing. While on hold, I googled 'Xfinity 50% discount' and discovered that this was a sophisicated scam. When he got back on the line I asked him what he told his parents he did for a living. He was confused and then I asked him how he could face himself in the mirror each morning knowing he was robbing people blind. Scammers preying on the elderly (I'm 76) infuriate me. He stammered and insisted it wasn't a scam. I told him to go out and get a real job and hung up on him.

I received the same call as well on July 12, 2023. Whew! Thank god I hate talking to people over the phone. I decided to chat with Xfinity through their Live Agent Chat and the agent told me it was a scam! BULLET DODGED!

Thanks for posting these info. Unfortunately I got scammed on July 14. I was thinking of changing my plan to a low cost plan and then I saw this offer and got suck in. They have make me to believe that I was actually talking to Xfinity agent. They know my current bill amount and also my account contacts info. Here is what they are trying to attempt again. The following is a portion of the note I filed on FTC.
"Looks like they are trying to scam more out of the victims even after the got the money from the gift cards from the victims. They sent me another text message today and said " We regret to inform you that there is a transaction error on your payment. Kindly call the Xfinity billing department urgently at [Edited: "Personal Information"] to resolve the problem ... Regards Xfinity". I was suspicious the initial offer so I thought now Xfinity is contacting me to resolve this.
So I called the [Edited: "Personal Information"] and the person who took the call told me to call back tomorrow 10 AM EST to talk to the manager. When I asked why I need to call tomorrow, the phone got hung up.
Then I tried to call the [Edited: "Personal Information"] number and the person who took the call told me to call back tomorrow 3 PM PST to talk to the manager. When I asked why I need to call tomorrow, the phone got hung up."
