Closed captions stops working whenever the box goes to sleep

Recently, we were told that the new digital box would turn off or go to sleep to save energy. Now that it does, whenever I turn the box back on to watch TV, the closed captions are gone even though they are still on in settings. I have to turn captions off and then turn them on to get them to work. This was never a problem before the box was able to sleep.
