Here's how to handle that error message: as soon as you see it close it and go right back to the Manage WiFi link for a second try. This often worked for me but not every time. At least once i had to make 3 tries. This is sort of a last ditch effort when nothing else works.

Are you using admin for username and password for password? If these don't work try doing a reset using the recessed button on the back of the router. Hold time is more than 10 seconds ( i think- try 30 to be sure). This should restore admin and password as active.

knagesh here are a few things to try when you can't access 10.0.0.1. http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/wireless-gateway-username-and-password Find the numbers 10.0.0.1 shown in blue in this document. This is a link to the login/admin page of a TG862 gateway. Try an ethernet cable from gateway to computer. Create a new document. Type http://10.0.0.1 and hit enter to light up text as a hyperlink. Click it. If any of this works CREATE A SHORTCUT in taskbar or desktop so you can return anytime. Everybody re-read post 104 by barbaramag3156 in this thread. That pretty much says it all.

This might work IF you have a TG862 gateway. http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/wireless-gateway-username-and-password Go to that link and find the numbers 10.0.0.1 shown in blue. This is a link which will go to the login admin page of a TG862. Another possibility that worked for me was a new document where i typed http://10.0.0.1 then hit enter to light it up in blue as a link. If you get to the login page as soon as you see it CREATE A SHORTCUT in taskbar or desktop so you can return anytime.

Hallelujah! Something i discovered after interminable floundering actually worked. That's exactly how i managed to install an infamous TG862 in the first place. Reading these forums and sharing the frustration of others at least made me feel a little better.

I made an earlier post titled 10.0.0.1 workaround so here it is again. If you can get the numbers 10.0.0. up on your display while looking at a Comcast publication that is a link which will go to the admin page of a TG862 gateway. Here's the publication: http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/wireless-gateway-username-and-password As soon as you see the admin page CREATE A SHORTCUT on your taskbar or desktop so you can get back to it anytime. From a publication titled Touchstone TG862 Telephony Gateway User's Guide: Indicator Lights for the TG862: WiFi On=WiFI enabled Off=WiFi Disabled Flash= Computer Activity. So if the computer is doing anything the light will flash just like a hard drive activity light.

Wow! Reading this thread is just too much to resist. Here's my horror story. I tried to make a self installation kit with an Arris TG862 operational.Have you tried to get access to 10.0.0.1 lately? Perish the thought! I found something buried somewhere in fine print that said an ethernet cable is required but that doesn't work now, I finally discovered that if you see 10.0.0.1 in blue in a Comcast publication about gateways on your display that will actually take you to the login page. How many articles have you seen in these forums about access to this address? In setting up my gateway i tried Comcast support with results that could only be called dismal. After what seemed like endless floundering i finally got the thing to work with none of the problems lamented here probably because the gateway is only 10 feet from my laptop. Trying to disable Xfinity WiFi is another big forum topic because "manage Xfinity WiFi" brings up a "we're sorry" error message. So as someone said earlier here's hoping Comcasts' attempts at corporate merger get the same degree of attention that complaints on this forum do.

OK guys here's some new spin on this. Remember i was the one who first said I tried what Gus said and that worked. Then i said that the only way to get the disable option was multiple attempts. Now i've discovered that when the "we're sorry" error message appears if you go right back to the "manage wifi" link you'll get through on the second try. Soneone mentioned disabling script and ad blockers. Could this be related? I don't know. Also for those who care about such things Xfinity WiFi isn't the only extra signal. There's something called Other Network in there too. Looking at Xirrus WiFi Inspector with a scanner function Other Network is not disabled when Xfinity is. My attempts using another browser were a fluke too, That only worked one time. Someone questioned whether the WiFi signal was really cut off when the SSID was. According to the Xirrus scanner yes it is.

I consider myself a novice at this but here's what set me nuts with a self installation kit from Comcast. Trying to connect to 10.0.0.1 may require an ethernet cable between the computer and router. If i understand it correctly you're not trying to look at the net but rather the login page of the router. Anyone more well versed feel free to add your two cents.

Take a look back at EG's post at message 2 of this thread. For what it's worth my first effort sucess with a different browser was a fluke- i can't do it again no matter how many tries.

OK gang here's the answer to the multiple efforts with "manage wifi". Try a different browser. I was using Yahoo with inconsistent results, switched to MSM.com and got the disable option on the first try.

The good news is that you're at the right place getting exactly the same message i did. The bad news is that literally days of effort may be required. Keep trying- eventually you'll get an option to disable.

Since i'm a resident of an assited living facility the possibility of abuse of a hot spot isn't an issue. So just out of pure curiosoty i tried re-enabling wifi. Here's the bad news: when you click "manage wifi" the odds are about 50 to 1 that you're going to get an error message. Comcast at it's finest. I also endured the frustration of a self installation kit supplied by them. Attempts at telephone support were dismal. I eventually suceeded but it was due to my own efforts, no thanks to Comcast. The end of this sad tale is that you really can turn the hotspot on or off but only with determined effort.

Not to beat this subject to death but what Gus68 posted really did work for me. But ever since then when i click "manage wifi" this message appears- "we're sorrry something unexpected happened. Please try again later". Xfinity WiFi has disappeared from my list of SSID's so Gus was right.

It sounds like you're in My Services & Equipment which does indeed have a blurb titled Understand Infinity Wi Fi. This is not where you want to be. After clicking Users and Preferences look for User Name which will be you and near that will be Service Address which will be the street address where the modem is located. Under that is the link to disable.

After you click on "users and preferences" LOOK AROUND. Tha address you're looking for should be the street addrress of your house where the router is located. The link to "manage wi fi" is just under the address. If you get a message that something unexpected caused a failure keep coming back and trying again. It took me several tries. When I finally got it disabled I've never gotten through again to re-enable but so what? Don't feel bad about not finding the address. It took me a while to figure it out.
