I switched from a POP3 account to an IMAP account about 3 months ago. The good news is that it stopped the problem of having thousands of emails repeatedly downloaded to my Mac running Outlook 2011. The bad news is that now all emails are deleted somehow from my inbox once they get to be about 17 days old. I have verified that my email preferences on the Comcast site are set to NEVER delete messages from my inbox. Unfortunately, though, something is causing all my messages older than 17 days to be deleted. I access my Comcast IMAP account from 4 devices: A Mac running OSX Mavericks and Outlook 2011, a PC running Windows 7 and Outlook 2010, and an iPhone 5S and iPad mini running the latest version of IOS. I have verified that all 4 devices think they are dealing with an IMAP and not a POP3 account. Anyone know which device or devices is causing my messages to be deleted? I've lost lots of vital emails now and don't know how to make it stop. So far Comcast technical suppor has been unable to help me either. They really provide limited support for users using IMAP accounts.
