This is a huge problem for a box that reboots nightly when most people's equipment is turned off! None of my other equipment behaves like this - they all re-do their HDMI handshakes when other equipment is powered on! I can recreate this issue 100% of the time if I reboot my X1 box while the AVR is powered off. If I reboot the X1 box while the AVR is powered on, the X1 box continues to output surround sound after rebooting (since it "saw" a surround-capable device). Perhaps that's why this is taking so long to fix - you are testing while the other equipment is powered on which is not realistic since the X1 reboots at night. The X1 should be doing another HDMI handshake when the AVR is powered on, but it's not. Until this happens, the problem will never be correctly fixed. Either that, or just output forced surround when the customer selects "surround" in the menu and do not do an HDMI-handshake to check if the device is surround-capable. Also, when surround is being output from the X1, I have multiple split-second audio dropouts per hour (probably anywhere from 3-8) when watching live TV. I never once noticed these dropout issues on my old Motorola DCX3400. I also don't really seem to notice the dropouts if I set the X1 to output Stereo instead of Surround. Are the Surround dropouts being investigated by the X1 team? They are so annoying that I currently have Surround sound disabled on the X1 box. I have the blue light Pace DVR for what it's worth. Thanks! You nailed it on the head. This is the exact problem I have with my old Pace green light box.

It is Friday so I am not sure if she is working, but you could try sending a p.m. to comcast linda on this matter. Good luck with the crack guide! ComcastChad suggested a fix yesterday in another thread. The fix was only temporary. The guide issues came back this morning as well as the audio mode reverted back to stereo.

It happens to me when I access the guide from the Menu button. It doesn't happen when I access the guide from the Guide button. I usually use the Menu button to access all options rather than using the Guide button. The problem is quite annoying and makes the Guide useless.

I got the 1.47 update last night. Now the guide is all messed up. I can't advance more than a few pages before it reverts back to where I started and when I try to move sideways to a later time it quickly reverts back to the current time. Any suggestions?

When I called Comcast, they seemed to indicate that not all boxes are RF and that I would need a specific RF X1 box. From what you are saying, that is not accurate? I have yet to find a Comcast customer service person or installation tech that has a clue about the RF capability of the X-1 boxes. Try it. It works.

Are you saying that the box and remote are, in fact, also RF? and that I do not need a specific RF box? Yes. The remote will work with both RF and IR.

The other problem is that they said I would receive RF boxes and I clearly did not. It does not appear that the folks over the telephone know what’s going on (if I am lucky enough to find someone that understands English) Instructions to pair your remote with your X-1 box: 1. Press and hold the Setup button for 3 seconds until the All Power button changes from red to green. 2. Press the XFINITY button on the remote control. Your TV should display on-screen instructions. If the on-screen instructions do not appear, you may ned to press the XFINITY button again- up to five more times. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter the 3-digit code that appears. 4. Once the code is correctly entered, your remote will be paired with the digital set-top box. The set-up should work out of sight, but sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't, you will need to be line of sight for steps 1 & 2. The first time I paired my remote, it worked out of sight, but every time since, I've had to start the sequence with the remote in line of sight of the X-1 box. These instructions are from the user's guide that comes with the remote, but sadly, I've noticed that most installers, throw the user's guide away. I scooped mine out of the installer's trash pile when I saw it and realized what it was. Neither the installer nor his supervisor had any clue how to pair the remote to work in RF mode and almost all customer service drones (even the dedicated X-1 CS people) don't even know the remote will work in RF mode.

Wanted to know if anyone has experienced this problem. I just had X1 Triple Play Service installed and the Tech couldn't get the HDMI output on the box to work for the audio portion, video works. My TV works fine with other components that use the HDMI (Blue Ray Player). To solve the problem, they just connected the cable box and ty using the component video/composite audio cable connection. I understand the the HDMI is the best quality connection for HD. The Tech tried 4 other cable boxes and 2 wouldn't load/start up initially, the 3 and 4 boxes (4 one is the one installed now) will only allow video only using the HDMI. Should I demand they find a cable box that the HDMI works 100% (Both video and audio)? If you're connecting directly to your TV, you need to make sure HDMI audio is turned on for the HDMI input you used.

Something new... While actively watching a DVR show (not paused or stopped) the screen saver turned on. The sound continued playing. I simply hit a key maybe exit and returned to the playing recorded program. Anyone see this before? First and only time this has happened to me. This happened to me a couple of times until I went into the settings and set the screen saver to 5 hours. The service tech that came to my house yesterday to replace my original X1 box mentioned the issue to me just before he left. I told him I was already aware of the issue, because it had happend to me before. He said it was a bug in the software (just one of many).

The real question remains is it actually putting out Surround or stuck in Stereo.
Tech was not sure but reported it to the engineers.
To those who think that selecting surround still works, this seems a logical move. I know my receiver is Dolby Digital capable and I am using an optical cable which should be carrying the signal. I will get into my reciever and see if I can decipher the indications.
Does anyone know a good comcast channel, or program, to check to validate the surround sensation from the X1 box?
How can you tell using the X1 if the program is dolby digital or just stereo. Seems they used to display this on the program guide of the old mortorla??" All of the HD channels broadcast in 5.1. Your receiver should display which channels are receiving signal from the X1.

I'm considering getting the X1 box. All of my equipment is housed in a separate equipment room and I use a Control4 system and Control4 remote in the theater room to control the system. Are there any known problems using the X1 with a Control4 system and Control4 remote?
