@kajpin (Lets see if an Expert deletes my comment like usual for telling the truth) Agree 100%.... There is no excuse why Xfinity is the only ISP that is so restrictive with there streaming app. But yet they encouraged to use their stream app. Since near the end of 2017 Ive been told by different Xfinity Rep's that eventually more streaming devices will support this Stream app. Nothing has changed n we're in April 2019. Roku is what they are promoting to use. I have a Roku do not like the streaming technology. It is not versatile but yet the Stream app works fine. Roku is very limited what apps can be installed from Roku store which is not an open market device but controlled by Roku police( figure of speech). I do not get why Xfinity is doing this to there paying customers other than money. I have 4 months left till my contract ends. After 30 years with Comcast /Xfinity I am looking forward dropping Xfinity n going with Verizon. Im tired of all the different excuses each rep gives me. Seems in the past 15 years reps have gotten worse than better. Sad and very disappointed.

Does not surprise me that Comcast employees are not all on the same page. I to was misled to believe from a Comcast rep I can save money and not renting their boxes to Simply use their Stream app. Selling me their product for me to agree to commit to a contract. Even though I ask the appropriate questions. Seems I was giving exactly what I wanted to hear. 7 months into my contract and reading a lot on these forms and elsewhere Comcast seems to be dragging their feet they will partnership with more companies or have no intentions to do so. Keeping themselves very very limited and tight ship.
Other than promoting Roku and some Samsung and Sony smart Tv models. Wasnt long ago their Stream app use to work on any media streaming device. Long as you were a Comcast customer. Comcast without notice stopped this feature and limited how their Stream app will work. But Jan 2019 rates went up across the board. While other providers do not limit their paying customers using streaming capabilities over the internet. Been a customer for more than 30 years and I see they do not appreciate any loyalty to long term customers. In my opinion this is not the way to do business. SAD...

After speaking to many comcast support reps on phone calls on a recorded line and on email and on these forums, concerning the Stream app. I have expressed how misleading information has been given to me as a paying customer willing to switch to Verizon unless I get answers. Seems Comcast employees and these volunteers on these forums and at a comcast store i went to are all not on the same page. I find this to be very disturbing and absurd and most of all frustrating. Months of looking deeper into this and finally spoke to a regional manager. I was told I am not breaking any rules or copyrights using this Streaming app on my Sony Smart Tv built on Android.
I was emailed by management a link for me to be able to install their stream app. We were on the phone for a few hours getting my Sony Smart TV setup. It has been working just like the Roku device I own(do not like Roku at all) and setup on another TV. I asked a simple question about this partnership thing I keep hearing. Never did get a straight answer Seems Comcast already had Sony established but not all their models work. But was not added in the Google Play Store. Which I found to be interesting. My model infact does work. I explained that Verizon also has their own streaming app it happens to work on any streaming device as long as it has Android OS. Why is Comcast very Limited in which streaming device can be used? I explained maybe why consumers are jumping off a Comcast onto Verizon or other providers. I gave an example such as TV Land and Paramount apps( just to name a few). Practically every cable provider is accepted by Paramount app but Xfinity/comcast. There are many others as well from A-Z. The fact this regional manager wanted to work with me to get my TV up and running using Stream app, so not to lose me as a customer, I took this as a compromise. I've been a comcast customer for more than 30 years and told the regional manager not only will he be losing me as a customer but I would also advising my mother and my three cousins to also leave Comcast as well. They have been very disappointed mainly with service and billing. And have been on the edge on cutting ties with Comcast to switch over to Verizon. I've been coaching them into staying with Comcast. Sad that frustrations have to peek with consumers.

Currently a Comcast customer.
Works on Sony smart TVs as well.
The problem is Comcast "stream" app does not show up in the Google play store within the TV. According to an "expert" on this forum on a different thread. They quoted to me... if the stream app does not show up in the Google Play Store on the Sony Smart TV but it works on a smartphone. I was told that your not allowed to bypass the TVs Play Store and take the legal copy of the Stream app and install it on Sony smart TV. That would be a violation of the DMCA and could be faced with a fine or imprisonment.
O and yes...shearing a few different websites with my personal attorney he begs to differ.... no such violation of the DMCA. This certainly can be challenged in a court in the US.
So my question to The Forum and I'm sure the experts are reading this... how are we to install the Stream app on a Sony Smart TV when it does not show up on the Google Play Store???
When in fact Comcast and Sony have a partnership as of 2018?

It happens to be to my knowledge that the Xfinity streaming app. Does not work on most well-known name brand media streaming devices. Example: Nividia Sheild, fire stick and many others. I like to know why if one happens to be a customer of Comcast and has full access to utilize the Xfinity streaming app. Is secluded to only to use the streaming app on 3 devices such as Sony TV and some Samsung models tv's and all seven Roku streaming media devices due to a partnership. It is absurd that Comcast puts a restriction on their streaming app when the competition elsewhere does not put such restrictions on utilizing their apps. I've been told by many Comcast employees for the past two years Comcast is working diligently to make their Xfinity streaming app compatible with more name brand devices. <Edited for violating forum guidelines>. Your big competitor "Verizon FiOS" their streaming app happens to work on any streaming devices. No restrictions... <Edited for violating forum guidelines> ...

It may be a minor cost to you. But each box $6 bucks per month ( inverter box) for more than one tv adds up X1 box much more per month if you don't own your own cable modem they charge you rental fee for that as well. I dont believe in wasted money to give comcast when my bill is high enough. If there is a free way to save money of doing things that comcast offers the question should be "why not take advantage of their free app and streaming service"... If your not aware Comcast just (1/1/2019) did a 3.3% increase for both broadcast fee and sports regional fee.<Edited for violating forum guidelines> Some people may be on fixed incomes. <Edited for violating forum guidelines> I admit they try to put affordable packages together <Edited for violating forum guidelines> However Comcast advertises that they have a low income service program for individual customers that cannot afford cable TV or Internet. But when inquired about such programs there excuse "not in your area"... especially when the known area happens to be low property living in HUD homes... Go figure... Cheers PAL,

I can say the Xfinity streaming app is working on my Sony X900E 4K HDR TV.
However A friend of mine has the nvidia shield and no matter what the Xfinity streaming app does not work. The app will load and you're able to login pulls down all the shows and in "All Channels" options, it will pull down the entire TV Guide. Once clicked on a Channel network those dots show up in the middle of the screen like it's getting ready to start streaming. But an error message comes up saying sorry..... disconnect casting and HDMI capabilities...bla bla...
Called Comcast and spoke to a rep for help and information. Describing exactly the problem with the nvidia shield not able to stream using the app. But works on my Sony Tv. The Comcast rep I was surprised that it was even working on my Sony TV. Basically had no answer as to why it was not working on the shield. His best knowledge was it's not compatible for neither Sony or Nvidia Shield.
But yet it's working perfectly fine on my Sony. Seems to me that this Comcast rep is out of touch I'm more less wanted to get off the phone. Leaving it up to the paying customer to research on their own to find out answers. Very Sad
I have been with Comcast since the day they took over the internet business. I am starting to have second thoughts when leaving Comcast once my contract expires. <Edited for violating forum guidelines> . Awful lot of money per month per year people such as us pay Comcast for service. <Edited for violating forum guidelines> Comcast is not a poor Company by far I feel that they need to spend a little bit more time and listening to their paying customers and keeping up with the market demands. Also training or hiring much more skilled people to become their employees when dealing with paying customers.<Edited for violating forum guidelines>
I'm sure my message on here will go unnoticed and unread by Comcast.
Very sad Comcast was once a good reliable Corporation now it seems they could care less about the little people.... just my opinion and experience in my observation from Reading many forums...
