Amazon replaced the FireTV Stick and the replacement connects to the Internet w/o a problem (with a new IP address since the MAC address is new). I find it hard to comprehend (only engineers argue with themselves) that the hardware could be doing something that allows it to connect to the router but not the Internet. I suspect the new IP may have given me a break but bottom line - I am back on the air.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick connects to the wireless Netgear router (strong signal, etc.) but returns saying it can't connect to the Internet. The router shows that an IP has been assigned to the Fire TV Stick. My two smartphones and another wireless enabled TV connect wirelessly with no problems. Tried every option including entering all the wireless settings (so I now know what an subnet mask length is all about). No joy. Tried factory reset and now since it can't get to the Internet, says it can't connect to Amazon.com The Fire TV Stick worked for about a month although I normally had to go thru resetting the router (power cycle, the bill gates solution) when the connection was lost (still lost as to why that was happening from time to time but after an hour the connection seemed to settle down). Any thoughts?

Since the display light settings are changing just about every early morning, I'm of the belief that Comcast is updating the sofware every time my display lights settings change.

Xfinity button, scroll over to the settings icon (furthest to the right in the upper menu) and it is an option in the list on left of the screen where you can set the brightness of the clock and the power button. If you set the clock brightness to 0, the clock will not be displayed. The variation in the brightness is not all that much however. In a dark room, the lowest setting still makes a great night light.

Picked up on this hint somewhere but after trying to program my Harmony remotes using the Mototola equipment models (as shown by the user manuals posted on the Comcast web pages) in the Harmony script generation - always ended with Harmony asking me to go thru the remote to remote learning exercise. I have never found this scheme to be worth anything. Seems as if the trick is to specify the Xfinity X1 as the PVR (or digital set top box) which Harmony seems to have in their device database. Reading that powering the set top box On/Off is not a function in the XR2 remote (should only be done by manual pressing of the power button on the box according to the documentation), I chose the 'always leave on' option for the set top box in the Harmony script generation. I now have my Harmony remotes working to a degree - not sure if optimizing them is worth the effort other than unlike the Comcast/Xfinity XR2 remote, the Harmony remotes have a backlight feature not on the XR2 remotes.

The clock (display on/off) along with the 'brightness' level of the clock and the power button are in the settings (Xfinity button --> settings icon on the right side of the menu bar --> Device Settings --> Display Lights). Turning Display Lights down to 0 removes the clock from the front panel display.

I've found how to set a Favorite channel in a previous posting (convoluted but it works) however all this does is 'filter' the Guide. How does one cycle thru one's Favorite channels similar to the FAV button on the pre-X1 remote? The XR2 Version R2 remote (marked as Version U2 on the remote which 'passeth all understanding') has no such button which indicates to me we've lost the capability.

I'll take it all back. The XR2 remotes provided with my install today (7/22/13 Houston, TX) of the X1 system are XR2 R2 devices but of course you need to know that the marking on the remote U2 means the same as R2 which of course is obvious to anybody (lol). The XR2 U2 remote will control two devices, I chose the TV and A/V receiver. The setup codes have not changed from the previous DVR system. As the R2 instructions state ( http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/cable-tv/xr2-xfinity-tv-remote/?p=1%20-%20Program_XR2_work_to_control_audio_device ) you first program the TV and then you repeat the process programming the A/V device. My set top box (a Motorola but marked as the Xfinity RNG150N) stays powered on all the time which even when it is off it is on - so no problem (Comcast continues to prioritize TV watching over power consumption but after all this is America). I wonder why Comcast X1 support didn't know that U2 = R2 as marked on the provided remote but maybe since all provided remotes are R2 devices (marked as U2), they didn't know there was an R1 controller.

The device codes provided earlier in this thread were exactly the same as the older non-X1 remote controllers and the same device codes that have been around for years. In all of my discussions with Comcast, they essentially have no idea about Version R1 versus Version R2 of the XR2 remote (the install technicians were also in the dark) so the suggestion was to go visit the local Comcast store to see if they had a Version R2 controller with no guarantee that since they were so new in the Houston area, they may or may not have a Version R2.
