xfinitywifi network - how do I know if it's mine, and if so, how do I shut it off?

I have a new Xfinity modem (just installed). It's operating in bridge mode, as I use my own router and my own wifi access points, and everything is working fine. But, my laptop is telling me there's a strong wifi network nearby called ""xfinitywifi", which I believe is the one produced by default by Xfinity modems. #1, how do I determine if this is my modem doing it, or some other nearby house's modem?  #2, if it's mine, how do I turn it off?  With my old Xfinity modem, I could go to 10.0.0.1 with my browser and set the modem functionality via the http interface (and see logs, signal strength, etc.).  Now, when I go to 10.0.0.1, it wants me to use the phone app (and the phone app is asking me to set up my wifi network, which I don't want to do!) before it lets me in to do anything else. Is there a way to get to its management interface from a browser on my computer?

Unplug the power to your gateway device. If it (the SSID broadcast name) goes away, it's yours. If not, it's someone else's.

Good point. It's mine. So how do I get to the modem's control GUI to shut this off?  When I go to 10.0.0.1, it says it wants me to use the phone app (no access to the login screen), but the phone app is asking me to set up my wifi network, which I don't want to do, before it lets me in to do anything. Is there a way to get to the modem's management interface?

AFAIK, they have forced users to have to use the Xfi app or the website now. Try calling 1800comcast and see if you can get a rep to do it for you.

Good luck !

Re: xfinitywifi network - how do I know if it's mine, and if so, how do I shut it off?

Thanks. I've tried calling, and they have no clue what I'm talking about. I'm ok doing it with the app, but the app won't let me past the initial setup, which I don't want to do because it's working fine and last time one of the techs tried to set it up again, they downloaded me a bad config file and it took 3 hours to get it going again...  I'm also considering buying my own modem - then presumably I can use its http interface from a computer, and skip the phone app?

What can I say. I'm not an employee. For many many years I have been a proponent of using one's own equipment rather than being a prisoner of any ISP's equipment.
